Our Nothingness

"And again I say unto you as I have said before, that as ye have come to the knowledge of the glory of God, or if ye have known of his goodness and have tasted of his love, and have received a remission of your sins, which causeth such exceedingly great joy in your souls, even so I would that ye should remember, and always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, and your own nothingness, and his goodness and long-suffering towards you, unworthy creatures, and humble yourselves even in the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come, which was spoken by the mouth of the angel." -Mosiah 4:11-

What do we have to boast? What do we have to become prideful?

I get annoyed when members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints boast of what they have and put themselves higher than others. Why? Because they have nothing to boast. God has given us everything and He can take them away. Even if we have gained riches, God can take our loved ones or even our lives whenever He wills it. Do we not pray to God and ask for His help? Do we not pray to be saved? Do we not beg to be forgiven? What do we have to boast?

We are nothing. We are unworthy. Because we are nothing and unworthy, we should always be humble. Humble enough to ask God to forgive our sins and make us worthy. Only through the Atonement of Christ, we can become worthy, clean, and perfect.

Can you really set yourself higher than others?

"Do not pray as the Zoramites do, for ye have seen that they pray to be heard of men, and to be praised for their wisdom.

"Do not say: O God, I thank thee that we are better than our brethren; but rather say: O Lord, forgive my unworthiness, and remember my brethren in mercy—yea, acknowledge your unworthiness before God at all times." -Alma 38:13-14-
