Why Wouldn't I Be Sick?

So I felt like I was getting sick last night and of course, this morning I got up with cold.

Stress of writing a literature review for my Psychology class and of tests coming up next week and lack of sleep  combined forces with the evil virus to attack me. I lost the battle but the war is still going. I am at work right now with four layers of clothes and a scarf. I am not even supposed to dress like this at work but who cares? My supervisors don't work today and I am SICK! Even with this much clothes, I am still freezing! All I can think about is going home and wear another layer of clothes then bundle up in a blanket or two. That sounds like heaven!

I just got sick so I know tomorrow will be the worst day! I still have to study for a test on Monday! This is getting really ridiculous. I should have bought some soup!

I realized that whenever I am sick or pulled an all-nighter the night before, I get pretty easy going and stop caring about things. Nothing bothers me at work. :)

Understanding Dating: Thank You, The 100 Hour Board!

I looked up some questions that other people posted about dating because I have females friends who wonder if it's OK for girls to ask guys out. So I did some research where you find answers to your every question of life: The 100 Hour Board. Here are three that I really liked.

1. You know how guys feel.
Many guys are nervous to ask girls out on dates so this question was very "dear" to me because this girl started to understand how guys would feel. You, girls, start asking guys out; you will understand why some guys are scared to ask you out.

2. "Ask and ye shall receive."
I don't know about this whole "other country" business the werf (he/she) was talking about but if you are complaining about guys not asking you out, you can ask them out. It's no big deal. At least the guy will know that you are interested in him.

3. Stigma!
Guys should never get freaked out if a girl ask them out. For my first date ever in my life, I was asked out by a girl. I only freaked out because it was my first date but I thought it was pretty cool that she asked me out. Of course, it didn't work out since I was interested in someone else. Anyways, going back to what I was really talking about, I think girls should just go for it.

I couldn't find anything about some tactful ways for girls to ask guys out so I asked that question. Once they answer that question, I will update this post.

Update
So the 100 Hour Board basically said,
I'm going to say that girls should ask guys out in pretty similar ways to how guys should ask girls out (see here). Specify that you'd like to go on a date with them and suggest an activity. Be casual about it, but go for it. Board writers in the past have commented that most guys like getting asked out by girls, though girls shouldn't necessarily expect an immediate reciprocation of interest. Seriously. Just use the word 'date' but don't be creepy. Tell them you want to go see a concert, eat at a certain restaurant, etc. and you'd enjoy doing it with them. Go for it!
There it is. From the all-knowing Board.

The First "La Casa" Family Dinner

We planned to have a family dinner about on Sunday and this is an official La Casa (that's the name of our house) family dinner. We missed our other roommate Beau who was out of town. We had chicken, turkey sandwich, pasta salad, chips, taquitos, ice cream, and Sunkist. Very manly meal. :)

We are trying to figure out what we are going to have for next family dinner. Any suggestions?

A Haircut

On Sunday, I was thinking about how I need to do something to make myself feel better. I needed some kind of a drastic change but what could I do? Then I remembered an episode of Glee when Quinn character cuts her hair short to make herself feel better after breaking up with Finn. I thought that would be a pretty good idea since there isn't anything I can change except my hair.

I asked my friend, who was way excited that I was going to be Rufio for Halloween, if he would get mad at me if I decided not to be Rufio and to get a haircut. He was fairly disappointed but he understood how I was feeling at that time. So later that day, I called my friend, C, to get a haircut. She was actually giving a haircut to one of my roommates, S, so it worked out.

The best part of this story is that three of my roommates and I got haircuts from C, and two of us dyed their hair dark brown. My hair is way shorter than it was before but I am loving the every moment of it. I usually don't like haircuts because I am not used to it but this one is just amazing! I think it's because I was hoping to look different. Anyways, I feel like a new man.

I Love My Roommates

I have the most amazing roommates ever. One would give me phone numbers to suicide hotline. haha One would make me laugh by joking about things that are serious. One would relate what I am going through to what he has gone through in the past. I love them so much and I am very grateful that they are thinking about me and encourage me.

I just realized that my blog doesn't let you post comments. Sorry! I honestly didn't know that. I will get it fixed.

Edited
I fixed the comment box so you can now post comments. Also, I changed the template and fixed some stuff for your convenience. As you have noticed, there's no bar thingy on top of the page so you have to use the tabs I created below the name of the blog.
Also, I will be changing the font to different colors, sizes, and types.

My Heavenly Father Loves Me Pt 3

Don't you just love it when you feel God's love for you through your friends or people around you? Don't you just love it when your friends see you as God sees you?

I might have to change the title of this post "I Am Blessed With Great Friends" because I am.

Friends who motivate me.
Friends who encourage me.
Friends who change me.
Friends who make me laugh.
Friends who comfort me.
Friends who put a smile on my face.
Friends who listen to me.
Friends who give me advice.
Friends who serve me.
Friends who uplift me.
Friends who teach me.
Friends who compliment me.
Friends who cheer me up.
Friends who see my potential when I don't see it.
Friends who love me as God does.
Friends who see me as God does.

I can feel God's love for me as I think about this because He has put these wonderful friends in my path. I will give you an excerpt from yesterday's journal.

This is awesome!
"I rode with C. and S. to the reception and on the way back...they started coming up with this list of qualities I possess. I was very grateful that they were there to cheer me up, and I don’t know if I showed it to them but I am very very grateful to them. They are so great! Also, S. told me that once she and some of the girls from Brownstone were playing a game and they asked each other who they admire from Brownstone and supposedly my name came up few times. This entire time I was judging myself, beating myself up, depressed, etc but people around me saw a wonderful man who has a strong testimony of the gospel. Wow, I can really fake it. I am just kidding. I felt so amazing to know that I could be an inspiration to other people." -From Thursday, October 20, 2011-
I love my friends. I wish I can be more like them to be a friend like they are to me.

PS: I am kind of, maybe, possibly working on another post about "My Path" at BYU after my mission but I just have been slacking off so I haven't touched it since like two months ago. Sorry. I will finish it soon so I can work on the next big project.
So cute
Before I talked about how my patriarchal blessing says that I need to choose my friends wisely but I feel like they choose me to be their friends rather than me choosing them, and I am so grateful (that's not a perfect word to describe how much I appreciate them) that they chose me.

Putting Myself in a Category

I've been reading about mood disorders today and I realized once again how people try to put themselves in some kind of category. There is a category among depression called "Depressive Disorder Not Otherwise Specified" which, as the name describes, is a depression that can't be categorized into other major types.

This is me everynight :( jk
The real reason why I was researching depression was to see if I was in any of the categories and I think I found that describes me: Recurrent brief depression (RBD). You should read about it; it's not very fascinating but I got a disorder or it seems. I don't need to put myself into some kind of category. The only categories I need to be in are Asian and LDS (unless I think of more).

So there it is; I have Recurrent Brief Depression. Hooray! I always knew I was suffering from depression but I never thought I would actually be in a category. (tear)
(PS: I hope you all know I am *cough* half *cough* kidding about the last sentence. Read it in a sarcastic tone.)

I completely forgot the main purpose for this blog. I was going to write something more meaningful than talking about how I have RBD. Oh well, I guess I will post another blog when I think of it.

Scripture Study

Today, I remembered what my mission president told me. He said, "If you are bored, read your scriptures." I echo the same words to you: "If you are bored, read your scriptures." Elder Scott said during the October 2011 General Conference that "scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high." I like studying the scriptures meaning I need to study them more so that I will start loving studying the scriptures. I got work to do for sure.
"Learning, pondering, searching, and memorizing scriptures is like filling a filing cabinet with friends, values, and truths that can be called upon anytime, anywhere in the world." -Elder Scott-
I have been trying to figure out the best time to study the scriptures but I have failed miserably so many times. This morning I woke up around 5:30 and read a text message from H who told me that she was "super happy" because she had a good morning study. As I lied on my bed, I thought about what she said and decided to get up so that I could study my scriptures before I left the house. I even changed my alarm from 6:30 to 6 so that I will have plenty of time to get ready and study the scriptures. Sacrifices are necessary and they are so worth it.

How is your scripture study? Do you study them daily? What is your main focus when you are studying them? What/who motivates you?

True Thoughts Pt 2

This might be awkward too personally for some of you so if you don't want to read, don't. I won't know.

Have you ever felt like you are not good enough for someone you are interested, like, or love? You might think he/she is too handsome/pretty, too smart, too righteous, too something for you. You feel like you are not good enough for that person. You got nothing to offer when you keep receiving from him/her. (This really could be way personal.) You might not be intimidated around him/her but grateful to know someone so amazing and so motivational. You want to become a better person when you are around him/her. Even if you feel like he/she is interested in you, you don't want to ask him/her out or show interested in that person because you want that person to meet someone who is better than you. You feel like he/she deserves someone better. (Oh man, you are actually reading this. OH MAN, I AM ACTUALLY WRITING THIS!)

Like I always say, "C'est la vie" or "Es la vida" or "This is life" or "이게 삶이다." Yes, I just wrote in four different languages.

What Makes Me Mad Part 2

I want to be cool like Noah Wyle
1. Library patrons who tell me how to do my job.
I am pretty sure I've been trained and worked here long enough to know how to do research and find whatever you need. If I tell you that the book you are looking is not in the library, it's not in the library. If I tell you that the printers don't work, I know that they don't work and there's nothing I can do about it. If I am showing you what I am doing and explain to you why I can't get that article you want, you should be able to tell that it's impossible to get your article. I am not a magician; I can't make things appear out of thin air. Oh and don't roll your eyes at me when I tell you that the printers are not working.

What can I say? I like pictures of Asians
2. I hate the fact that we need sleep to survive.
I am not blaming God (maybe just a tiny bit) but I hate how I get super tired if I sleep less than 8 hours. Actually, I don't think I am ever NOT tired. I am always tired no matter how many hours I sleep. I don't even think I ever sleep for more than 8 hours anymore. I wish we could only need to sleep for 4 or 5 hours to function properly. We would have more time to hang out, do our homework or do things that we enjoy. I am so tired of being tired all the time. That doubles my tiredness.

3. People who put down Mormons or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
To be honest, I wasn't mad when I was watching this but it made me laugh because it made me think of all those people who tried to put down the Church on my mission. I just don't understand people who argue with us that we are not Christian when we clearly have the name of our Savior in the name of the church. Also, they say all these requirements of being a Christian and we believe all those things to be true, but they still say we are not Christians. One last thing, what the heck is "theological cult"? What Jeffress said did not make any sense because he's just trying to put things together to make it sound like the Latter-day Saints, Mormons, are not Christians. Anderson Cooper, however, does a very good job at calling Jeffress out and focuses more on the central belief of our church which is faith in Jesus Christ.

Understanding Dating: Assumption, Over-analysis & Expectation

I hope I am not the only one who has problems with these three things: Assumption, over-analysis, and expectations.

This post is a little bit different than other dating posts I wrote because I don't know what answers/resolutions are. There might not be.

*When I say "we," I mean "I"...most of the times.

Over-analysis
We notice things while we are hanging out with the opposite sex: little touching on the arm, smiling a lot at us, getting close to us, asking us a lot of questions about us, etc. We start to think, 'Why did she/he do that? Maybe she/he is interested in me (or maybe not).' 'She/he kept calling me a friend. Maybe she/he only thinks of me as a friend.' It kills everybody to think way too much about what that person does or says because we try so hard to figure out if that person likes us or not. Then the assumption comes in.

Assumption
We tend to assume what girls or guys do is because they are interested in us. We say, "he/she did this or that so he/she must be interested in me." We can only assume unless we don't talk to that person about it or go on a date with him/her. Even then we only assume over and over thinking that he/she is interested (or not interested) in us.

Expectation
I didn't choose this just
because he's Asian
I think I wrote about this before how in a movie 500 Days of Summer, there's a scene in which it shows the main character's expectations and the reality. It's very painful for me to watch because I had experiences like that. I don't understand why we have expectations when we know it's not going to go as we expect...ever. OK, maybe, sometimes, very rarely, seldom they do. However, we just hope for things because we want things to work out. We want to know if he/she is interested in us so we hope that things will happen so we will know for sure. When things don't work out as we hoped or expected, we lose that hope and think that he/she doesn't like us or isn't interested in us.

Final Thought
As I have stated in the beginning, I don't have answer to this problem. I don't even know myself what I should do, but I decided that I wouldn't over-analyze anything even if a girl really is giving me hints because I don't want to be stressed out about things that I can't know without asking. I don't want to go back and forth between "she likes me" and "she doesn't like me." That sounds really immature, dumb, and very frustrating. (I am sure everybody knows what I am talking about.) Perhaps, the best answer is talk to that person and see what he/she thinks.

My Heavenly Father Loves Me Pt 2

"Consider the Lilies" by Simon Dewey
Do you have moments when you feel like God is right beside you to lift you up? Do you have moments when you strongly feel His love for you?

Recently, I had few moments like that and I would like to share them with you.

The first story was from yesterday. I was pondering on few things that are happening (or not happening) in my life and I was a little frustrated at myself. I read parts of Drawing on the Powers of Heaven and Hearing the Voice of the Lord but the only part that caught my attention was this sentence from Drawing on the Powers of Heaven: (I am paraphrasing) "Through your sufficient faith, your prayers are answered." Then while I was studying the Book of Mormon and praying in my heart for some kind of an answer, I read 1 Nephi 2:12
"And thus Laman and Lemuel, being the eldest, did murmur against their father. And they did murmur because they knew not the dealings of that God who had created them."
I thought, 'Ouch!' but that was just perfect for me. However, that night I still complained but poured out my heart to Him who knows all things. He answered my prayer very very soon. He answers prayers even though it might not be according our time but He does. Last night, He answered my prayer according to my time. I am very grateful for that.
_________________________________________________________________________

The second story is from few weeks ago. This is from my journal:

Thursday, September 22, 2011
"Last night, I realized that I had to fast and attend the temple so that I wouldn't feel so overwhelmed. I fasted for few things and one of them was feeling peace and comfort throughout the day... When I got into the Celestial room, I prayed fervently. It was interesting because when I was praying, I [felt] the warmth of sunlight but I was inside of the temple so there was no way that I could feel sunlight.
"Throughout the day, I didn't feel overwhelmed at all. I was really at peace. I just planned out in my mind what I was going to finish today... Things are going to work out no matter what. I have to just take one step at a time. With the Lord's help, nothing is impossible and I can do hard things."

Four Posts in One Day? Yes Please!

I got a lot I have to do before I go on this ridiculously expensive group date, that I really don't want to go, with my roommates. Why would I want to spend 40 bucks on this date? (No offense, J but $40 is a little bit too much to spend on a date with a friend) $40 is how much I get for "selling" my body to the Plasma Center. There goes my money from today...

Anyways, going back to what I was supposed to do today... I have a lot to do but I am not doing anything at work since I keep telling myself that I need to have the rubric to write five-page paper for D&C class and Psych articles for a three-page rough draft of the Literature Review. I've been doing pretty well at planning on what I should do day to day so that I wouldn't feel overwhelmed. It's such a good strategy! Both of these papers are due Wednesday so if I finish them today, I won't have to worry about them and work on other things as days go by.

Let's go back to this date thing. It's probably going to rain tonight. It's probably going to be cold tonight. It's going to be really expensive. I am going on a date with a female friend with whom we probably have this mutual understanding that we are not going to be anything more than just friends. Verdict: not worth going. I have to go though because 1. my friend doesn't know it costs a fortune (for a college student) for this date, 2. it's a house-date meaning all the guys from my house are going (minus one: Jacob has to work), and 3. ...never mind. There were only two reasons. With 40 bucks, we could watch a scary movie and build our own haunted whatever.

Understanding Dating: The Key

Once again, I would like to make it clear that I am not an expert at dating. I don't pretend to be either but give opinions on what I think. You, of course, do not have to agree and shouldn't find anything offensive since it's only one person's opinion.

The Key of Dating

I strongly feel that the major key of dating is open communication. It doesn't have to be the success of dating but also the "successful" failure of dating. Let me try to organize my ideas and present them to you in an orderly manner. I don't think I will be separating it into "guys" and "girls" this time or maybe I will.

I think that every guy should do this but it might depends on the context. After your date, walk her to the door and tell her how great the date was and how great she is. Then let her know that you would love to ask her out again sometime but also let her know that she doesn't have to feel pressured to go on another date with him. In my mind, I would say, "I had such a great time with you. You are really funny and I laughed so hard when (bring up an event that was funny) (OR) I really enjoyed (whatever you did for a date). You know, I would love to ask you out again in the near future, BUT (and yes, you have to say it with upper-case) if you are not interested going on dates with me, you can always reject me. I might cry a little inside (make it funny) but I will be all right." Now, the girl knows that you are interested in her but you are not asking her out again for the week after that AND she knows that there's no pressure for her to go on another date with you if you do ask her out. She doesn't have to feel bad because there's already a mutual agreement that it's nothing serious.

And I think girls should take an opportunity like this to express how they feel. I've been talking to my friends and they learned so much about girls they are/were pursuing by talking to them and letting them know how they felt then they opened up. Girls, you shouldn't be afraid to "break" guys' hearts. They won't die. You should have an open communication with them so that they don't think you are leading them on and that you are interested in them. Guys would hate to spend money on girls who are not interested in them (I would too) so please, let us know. You can say something like, "I really enjoyed our date. You are a really sweet guy but (bless his heart) I am [looking for this type... OR not looking for a boyfriend... OR not interested in dating you] (OR) maybe we could just be friends (I like that better)." Of course, you will feel bad for him but he needs to grow up and if he throws a fit about it, you wouldn't feel bad for him at all and you would be glad that you crushed his (insert a way offensive word for "jerk" then turn it into an adjective) heart. Also, don't go on pity dates with guys because it will only lead them on.

So what is the key of dating? Open Communication!

Sorry about the background. You can click to view it in another window.

Questions? Concerns? Doubts? If you have any of them, you write your own blog about 'em.

I Work at a Zoo Called "Library" Part 6

Before you read this, I have to tell you that everything I write about the library is a true story.

A patron came up to the desk (he's actually still here next to me while I am writing this) and wanted to print from his laptop. I told him that he needed to download a software to print. Then he asked me if he needed to put money on his card if he didn't have enough. I told him yes. Then he asked, "If I call my mom right now and have her put money on my account, can I print then?" "...yes"

You are in college and you need your mom to put money on your account? Where is your money? Don't you have a credit card or a debit card?.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First sign of people looking for staplers: They come closer to the help desk.
Next sign: They look around at the desk for something.
Next: They open their mouth.
Then they look at my finger pointing at the table with staplers.
Then they turn around and see the staplers on the table.
Then they walk away from the help desk.

"Peace I Leave With You"

What do you ask your Heavenly Father for? How do you receive confirmation and answers to your prayers? How do you know He loves you?

Here's an excerpt from my journal

Thursday, October 7, 2011

"I woke up with hardly any desire to go to the temple because I was tired and it was so cold that I wanted to stay under my blanket. Then I thought about [my friend] who kindly rebuked me for not attending the temple every week so I got up to go to the temple. I would love to thank [my friend] millions of times to motivating me because it was such a great experience. Every time I go to the temple, always get the same feeling: peace. No peace that men can give; I truly believe when the Savior said, 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.' It was that peace the Savior left with us that I felt." (Name of my friend has been omitted)

Here is that quote: John 14:27

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Isn't it great to know that not only did He leave us with His peace but He assures us that we don't have to be "troubled" or "afraid." We can always rely on Him and know that He is God. We can trust Him to guide us in every trial, every challenges, and every temptation. I would love to have His peace in my life everyday.

Enjoy the Childish Things of Life

Sometimes I think it's OK to be immature if you are not annoying to people. Recently, a newly acquainted friend (L) introduced me to this awesome website. It is very childish cartoons but as I was reading them with her, I realized that I was laughing because she was enjoying it. Perhaps, if you read it on your own, you might not enjoy it very much but you will enjoy it more if you read it with your friends. (PS: dear L, I am not calling you childish. You are just really really awesome.)

Have you seen "Finding Neverland"? If you have, you will remember the part where all these orphans come into the theater to watch Peter Pan. Adults in the theater started laughing only because all these kids were laughing. I think they started to see this play in the eyes of children; that's why they were enjoying the play. Don't you think so?

Anyways, I think sometimes what we call immature or childish could be really fun. Perhaps, "childish" isn't the right word for it but pure and innocent. (Kind of redundant...) Anyways, what kind of "child-like" activities do you enjoy? Or did you use to enjoy? Perhaps, it's time to pull them out and enjoy them one more time.
