I Work at a Zoo Called "Library" Part 10

(So the library has scanners that patrons can use but they have to check it out just like books to use it, and it's been like that for years.)

Patron: Where do you guys have scanners?
Me: You have to check one out.
Patron: Are they not attached to the computers?
Me: No, so you have to check one out.
Patron: So you guys don't have them here?
Me: You can check one out.
Patron: Where do you guys have them?
Me: (getting frustrated) You have to check one out. Do you want to check one out?

Worst Part About Fasting on Non-Fast Sundays

I thought this was appropriate
I don't mind fasting on Fast Sundays because for some odd reason, I am never hungry. Also, it helps to think that everyone is fasting with you. HOWEVER! When you are fasting on any other days, all the forces combine to make you forget that you are fasting, think about food, or make you super hungry. Why stomach? Why!!!

Today is not different. I kept thinking about food and then I realize, 'Oh, I am fasting today.' Not the best feeling in the world. If it happens once or twice, that's fine, but if it happens more than that it starts to kill you from the inside (mostly from your stomach).

Your co-worker telling you that he turned on the water heater thing for hot chocolate definitely doesn't help either since you aren't drinking anything either. Having nothing to do at work but sit there and think about how hungry you are doesn't help either. Thinking about how you will spend 30 minutes of your lunch break thinking about how you are fasting doesn't help either.

I am not complaining. I promise. I am doing this because I want/need to. If I didn't, I would have broken my fast 10 minutes after I started it. I am telling you this because it is true. :)

Keep Digging, Buddy

You know, sometimes you feel great about life but you have this feeling that you are digging your own grave for some reason. If you ever have that kind of feeling, you are correct. You are digging your own grave.

Losing Yourself in the Service of God

I might cry as I type this.

Life is hard. All of us go through life with trials and adversities. Yesterday was my birthday and I had a great time; however, there still was a challenge that I just needed tell someone about. I complained to a good friend from my mission, and my companions and I reactivated her family. She and I talked to each other frequently and I would tell her what was happening in my life and she would tell me bits and pieces of her life. Well, when I complained to her, she texted me back and told me that we are in the "pit together" but she had more problems than I did. As soon as I found out what she was going through, I felt terrible and guilty that I just complained to her about something so small when she's going through so much crap (excuse my language but I don't know how else to say it other than "crap" or another word that could offend some people) and I knew that I didn't have time to feel sorry for myself at this point but do my best to help her. I can move on. I will survive. However, she was pretty much left with nothing.

I cried for her. I cried with her. We talked for hours while she was sitting in her car in front of a grocery store. I didn't know what to tell her. I prayed with her over the phone because she didn't want to pray. I talked about things I learned over the past few days, weeks, and months. I wanted to be there for her but I can't.

The worst part is when I didn't have answer to her question: "Why is everything happening to me?" What am I supposed to say? "God loves you. He knows you. He will help you out." She knew those answers and I knew she didn't want to hear them from me. At least, not now. I just listened to her and learned so much about her life and what she went through. What am I supposed to say? How am I supposed to help her?

Dear A., if you ever read this, know that you inspire me and teach me so much. This has been a learning and growing experience for me.

I would cry so much more when I think about what she's going through but I can't right now because I am at work. I hate that I am at work.

Prayers, Time, and Answers

"The Lord's timetable and our watches are not always synchronized." (T.G. Madsen)
"Consider Jacob’s virtual unawareness of time as he worked seven years for Rachel, as recorded in Genesis 29:20. “And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.” Beautiful! We mortals are so trapped in this dimension of time. It is not our natural element. We wear it like an ill-fitting suit of clothes, and we wish to hasten its passage on occasion. We also want to hold back the dawn on other occasions. We are not at home with time because we belong to eternity. In the moments when we are true and at our best, we have the experience of timelessness which Jacob had." (Neal A. Maxwell)

Those quotes are from my favorite blog  Every time I go to her blog, I see how much she is inspired by God and inspires me to hold on to my faith.

Everybody once in a while feels like God is slow to hear his/her prayers. A song that she quoted gives us hope and peace that He does listen and we should be grateful for that.
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
I am grateful that He listened to my prayer today and gave me such peace and comfort as I read this blog.

Low Expectations, Low Chance of Disappointment

Perhaps it's not the best philosophy to have but sometimes, it seems like that's the best solution. If you have high expectations, you will end up like this.

Birthday is a Giving Day

My mom, brother and I moved to the US about a year after my dad moved here. He was in Macomb, Illinois by himself for about a year. During this time, he had his birthday. Instead of telling other Korean students about it, he took them out to dinner and there, he told them that it was his birthday.

I still remember that story that one of those students told my family when we got there. I personally don't care about my own birthdays. I don't care if you throw me a party or give me gifts. Not a big deal. However, since I've been home from my mission, I have been trying to bake and/or cook on my birthday and invite people to come celebrate with me. I sometimes tell them that it's my birthday or baptism day to give them a very good reason to come but usually I just tell them to come and get some food.

I want them to know that I am so grateful that they are a part of my life and that they are wonderful friends. They make the difference in my life. It's like my birthday is to celebrate their friendship in my life rather than my existence. I wouldn't exist without them anyways.

I love my friends and family.

Merry Christmas,

Your favorite Asian.

Why I Love/Hate Fiction Books

I used to love reading fiction books until I came home from my mission. I decided that I want to read more gospel related books and learn deep doctrine stuff.

Recently (meaning two days ago), I decided to read some books over the break.

I love reading fiction books because I can imagine everything and anything however I want them to be. I can imagine what the characters look like, what the house looks like, how the scenery looks like, etc. I love doing that since I daydream about everything every day.

I hate reading fiction books because I get so emotional involved. I get really frustrated if things don't work out. I get so mad at characters who are jerks. I get really emotional if sad things happen. Oh, did I say that I get really mad at at characters? I got so annoyed whenever I read Keith Clayton's part of The Lucky One because he is a kind of a guy who thinks girls are materials, not humans with feelings. I got so mad and annoyed every time I read about what he thought of women. I hate guys like him.

Anyways, that's pretty much why I like reading fiction books. I am excited to read books!

Christmas Break!!!!

I think I am trying to catch up on blogging that I haven't done this month because sadly, I haven't posted whole lot this month. Now, I got all the time in the world to do whatever except I will be working a lot. It's OK though because even though I say "work," it's really sitting in front of a computer either reading a book or blogging until someone comes up to the desk to ask a question: that rarely happens. It's the break; no one wants to come to the library except those who don't have a computer or a printer at home.

How am I going to spend my break? I checked out a book (if you read the earlier post, you will know which book I checked out) about two days ago and just finished it about 20 minutes ago. Ten minutes ago, I checked out three more books by Nicholas Sparks: The Notebook, Message in a Bottle and Dear John. I have never seen the movies. I heard about Nicholas Sparks from my roommate and I was very interested in The Lucky One. Loved the book. I am not sure if I am excited about the movie though but it doesn't matter since it's PG-13 (for those who didn't know, I stopped watching PG-13 movies about three months ago). I am not planning on watching movies for these books because I might get really disappointed.

My goal for this Christmas break is to read as many books as I can. What are your plans?

Oh, my birthday is during the Christmas break too. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Is It Christmas?

Click here to find out.

"[A] Simple Truth"

While I was reading "The Lucky One," there was a quote that I really liked that I would like to share. One of the main characters said,
"...sometimes the most ordinary things could be made extraordinary, simply by doing them with the right people."
I am just going to leave it at that.

God Lets Me Cheat

While you are taking a test, you see faint circles around the answers because a person who took the test before you decided to write on the test form and erased the circles but you can definitely see them. What would you do?

I tried hard not looking at the answers but as it turns out, this person chose the same answers as I did except few that had stars next to them because he/she had to ponder before picking the answer. I thought to myself, 'If God didn't want me to get help from someone, He wouldn't have let me have this test form.' Don't worry. I did read the questions and the answers before checking my answers with the God-given test form. I didn't agree with few answers though.

I had to put this up because it was for Psychology and we were tested on inkblots

At the end of the test, there was another faint mark: 58/65. What did I get on the test? 58 out of 65. It was not because of that test form but it was very weird.

Happy Finals Week!

Friendship

I've been thinking about people who used to be my friends but not anymore. I am to blame for sure because it's usually my fault that we stopped talking to each other. I am an idiot but I am not a jerk. Things I say come out because I don't think about things and don't think about the consequences. All the friends I lost over the years were really great friends. They were there for me and helped me out when I needed them.

Recently, I lost a friendship of someone who was a great friend to me, but alas, I was an idiot. I shouldn't have tested our friendship. I haven't talked to this friend for over a month. I wish to tell my friend how sorry I am but I do not know how or what to say. I am afraid that this friendship won't get restored.

On the contrary, I am very grateful for friends that I have who make me appreciate what I have in my life. Few days ago, I was depressed as soon as I woke up. I was talking to my friend who asked me why I was grateful for God. I am grateful that he made me think about positive things in my life rather than looking at the bad things.

I love all my friends. I miss all the friends I lost.

Merry Christmas, everyone. Cherish your friends and let them know how much you love them. Don't ever lose them...

What Does Religion Have to Do With Anything?

So I was reading some articles on CNN.com and decided to find out what was happening with 2012 election. I read this article about Mitt Romney. I didn't read it all because it wasn't that interesting but what bothered me the most were the comments that people made. People kept talking about his religion and how he doesn't live his religion, practices polygamy, and so on. I thought, "What does that really have to do with anything?" People thought it was the worst idea to vote for John F. Kennedy because he was a Roman Catholic but he was great and even was assassinated. Do we talk about how he was a Roman Catholic now? No, because no one gives a...you get the point. Why do people have to bring up Mitt Romney's religion? Why not bring up other candidates' religions? I think it's very much true that there still are tons of opposition from the society when it comes to Mormonism.

Honestly, I am not a big fan of Mitt Romney. I don't care much about him even though he is a Mormon. I actually don't think it's right for Mormons to vote for him just because he is a Mormon. However, I don't approve of people bringing other people down because of their religions. Grow up!

You say freedom of religion. I say you are full of...it! You can tell how mad I am by counting how many times I replace(d) a swear word with ...'s. You Americans (not all of you) are liars who contradict your own Bill of Rights and philosophies. Everyone is equal? My ...butt! Just like you don't approve of Mormonism, you don't even think that it is wrong to stereotype other races. (I can really go into that too but I won't.)

That was my soapbox for the day.

I Work at a Zoo Called "Library" Part 9

This girl comes to the desk with much frustration.

Patron: Your staplers don't work!
Me: Are they out of staples?
Patron: I don't know! They just don't work! (Sees a stapler on our shelf) Can I use that?
Me: Sure.
(At this point, I was trying to find some staples to put in the staplers so I didn't see what she was doing.)
Patron: (more frustrated) This doesn't work either! (storms off)

(Now, I thought that the other one was out of staples so I opened it up to put some more but realized that there were plenty of staples. I realized that a staple was sticking out half way at the end of the stapler, where staples come out, so I decided that she didn't press hard enough. When I got more staples and went to the table with the staplers, they were all in the same state as the one at the desk: staples sticking out half way. All the staplers were full of staples. She didn't press hard enough for them to actually staple her paper. Who's stupid now?)

"I Wasn't Born Here!" Pt 3

I love it when people who were born here come to me to either check their papers or ask me how to spell "completely." I had a guy come up to me last Saturday and he asked me to read over his paper to make sure everything looks good. Later I found out that he was sending this paper to Japanese government for an English teaching job there. OK, if you would think that his English would be pretty good because he will be teaching it to Japanese, you are wrong. His paper was terrible in a way that the paragraphs he wrote were so short and very choppy. I didn't say anything to him about it but I just couldn't help thinking that even I could write a better paper than that. Also, his paper did not sound professional at all because the way he wrote the sentences with the words he chose sounded like he was still in high school. Didn't he take English 150? I mean, when I write anything that is as important as his paper for this job, I always have a different tone of voice than when I am blogging about people who can't write. Am I wrong?

Dude, I don't know how your paper stinks so much when I, who wasn't born here, can write something that is so much better than that.

And yes, I had someone come to me and asked me how you spell "completely" about an hour ago. If it was something like "onomatopoeia," I would have told her to look it up online or have butchered it, but "completely"? Are you serious?

Dude, I even know how to spell that even though I wasn't born here.

Finally!

How was your Thanksgiving break? Mine? Simply amazing! There were a lot of things I did that could affect me in the near future (or not). I had the meal at my friends' apartment because there were staying in Provo for Thanksgiving. It was way fun and we had tons of food!

The best part about the break is that my roommates and I got to decorate our house last night! Actually, we just got our Christmas tree up and decorated it but it was still way fun! I felt like a little kid when I was decorating it. We put out some boxes to make it look like we have gifts even though we don't.

I am really really excited for Christmas this year for some reason.

Kyoo Tips

So friends of mine thought that it would be cool if I changed the name of this blog to "Kyoo Tips" but I am not going to. Instead, I am going to make a new blog called "KyooTips." Thanks, Lori and Cristy!

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

Dear Santa,

I want to let you know what I want for Christmas.
I know people ask for technology, toys, cars, iPad2, iPhone, iPod, and all that good stuff for Christmas.
However, I would prefer it if you gave me money instead of anything so that I wouldn't feel too bad to spend a ton of money buying clothes and shoes I want.
Or you can just get me some clothes and shoes I want.
Either way would be fine.

Lots of love,

Kyoo, the Asian.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

On a more serious note,

My birthday and Christmas are coming up, and I thought about what I could get my mom whose birthday is on Christmas day this year (it changes every year). What's a good gift for an Asian mother who is turning 50? I don't know. I also need to coordinate this with my brother so we don't buy the same thing.

I never wanted anything for my birthday but this year, I would like to get a gift card or money so I can go shopping and spend all of that money buying clothes and shoes without feeling guilty. I wouldn't feel bad because I wouldn't be spending "my" money. Now you know what I want for my birthday/Christmas (if you know when my birthday is, you should know why I said "birthday/Christmas"). I don't expect it from you at all actually. I expect it from my parents. Then again, I might have to use that money to buy something for my mom...

One Second of Your Life

Do you know how important every second of your life is?

I got in a car accident yesterday. No one was hurt and my car has very minor damages to the bumpers. However, it made me think about how one second could have prevented this accident. What if I left stores earlier or later, what if I left home earlier or later, or what if I slowed down or sped up? Just not being at that spot a second earlier or later would have prevented this accident from happening. I am not blaming anybody or anything. I am just saying how life is very interesting (I can't come up with any other word to describe what I am thinking) or mystical. I don't know.

Think about your life; how you meet people on the street and things that you didn't expect before. Don't you appreciate them more and more? Don't you feel God's love for you more? I do. I appreciate the accident I had because without it, I would not have had this opportunity to learn. I would not have had remember what I learned on my mission. I learned to appreciate so much and learn to deal with situations like that (I laughed so much for so long).

I am glad the Lord is "piloting" me.

Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life's tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee:
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

I Work at a Zoo Called "Library" Part 8

There is an African guy (he's not African American, he's African) who goes around everywhere (at first I thought he was just lurking around in the library but he does this everywhere) and starts talking to a girl who is sitting by herself. It's always the same conversation (or should I say argument?): is the Church against interracial marriage. He argues that leaders of the Church make it seem like we shouldn't marry outside of our race. You will see him walking around here and there. The creepiest part is that he scouts out for a girl sitting by herself! What makes me really mad is that he talks about the same thing and just talks and talks and talks. Girls don't can't say anything back because they don't know what to say or they don't have anything to back them up except this idiot talks to everybody about it so he knows his sources. Another thing that makes me mad is that most of the girls he talked to always agree with what he says! Don't agree with him if you don't agree with him. Don't let him brainwash you like that. Just because he makes it sound so right and all that jazz, doesn't mean you have to agree with him. If you disagree, tell him you disagree. Watching people deal with him makes me so mad at him. I feel like going up to him and say, "Dude, what's the purpose of doing all this? You talk to different girls about the same thing! Why? You are just being a(n) [insert a bad word]!" Can I call security to escort him out?

If You Could Go Back in Time...

This was what I really wanted to blog about yesterday but I forgot about it until now. Even after blogging about something different, I still didn't remember what I was thinking yesterday. I am grateful that I blog-stalk people to be inspired or re-inspired. :)

Anyways, let me ask you this question: If you could go back in time, would you change anything? Think about it for a minute or two. Think about happy moments, sad moments, embarrassing moments, shameful moments, joyful moments, funny moments, etc. Now, my next question is why would you change it?

I thought the first question for a while yesterday. For the longest time I thought that it would be really neat to go back in time and change things that I wish I didn't remember. But yesterday I decided that I would not change anything at all. Yes, I have embarrassing moments. Yes, I have sad moments. Yes, I have depressing moments. However, I would not change them for anything because I know that I was supposed to experience those things to grow. If I truly believed in tender mercies of the Lord, why would I want to change anything that happened in my life? I should be grateful that they happened to me.

Memory is like a tree; when you are hurt, the wound heals but leaves a scar as memory lingers on. As you experience more things, sometimes the scar gets covered up but it's still inside you. Sometimes the scar is visible. However, you are a better person because of it.

I am grateful for everything I have experienced even if it nearly killed me or left me with regrets, I learned so much and I am stronger through those experienced. I would not change anything and keep them in my mind and heart.

He Gives Us a Coat of Skins

"Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them." -Genesis 3:21-
I like this painting because it
shows the sorrow they felt
as they left the garden
Many have you probably learned that God gave Adam and Eve these coats of skins  because they were naked. If you ponder more about, you realize few more things:
1. He provided the coats because it was important to them.
2. He provided the coats because the warmth of the coats would be symbolic of His love for them.

They are not what I want to talk about. I want to talk the fact that He gave them the coats despite the fact that they just sinned. God just condemned them for breaking a commandment and in the previous verses of Genesis chapter 3, He told them that the earth would be cursed with thorns and thistles. However, He didn't just kick them out by saying, "You are on your own," but provided something that they needed and that is symbolic of His love.  He did care about them even though they sinned. Aren't you grateful to know that He loves you even if you are not perfect, make mistakes or distance yourself from Him? He loves us and He will give us "coats of skins" that we may remember that He always loves us no matter what we do or how we feel about ourselves.

"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." -John 14:18-

Blessings of Mission

Thinking back on my mission:
There were good times
There were bad times
There were joyous times
There were sorrowful times
There were fun times
There were hard times

Reconnecting with my mission:
I loved God's children
I helped them
I served them
I taught them
God's children love me
They help me
They serve me
They teach me

Drops of tear forming in my eyes:
I listen to God's children thank me
I recall baptisms of people I taught
I remember testimonies of recent converts
I think about investigators who didn't accept the gospel
I look back on arguments I had
I hear stories of God's children falling away

Still being a missionary:
I have to be an example
I have to study the scriptures
I have to pray
I have to go to the temple
I have to take the sacrament
I have to magnify my calling
I have to love all God's children
I have to have the countenance of Christ
I have to be perfect

A New Sunday Routine

I started going with a group from my ward to rest homes to sing. I've been doing it for about a month now but yesterday was a little bit different. After going to sing with a group, I went to another rest home by myself because I felt like it. I met a woman named Loraine (I hope that's how she spells her name). I talked to her for about an hour and it wasn't just her talking to me about her life but also me talking to her about my life. I have never realized how lives of older generations and younger generations can connect so easily. I loved listening to her and she loved listening to me. I sang "I Stand All Amazed" and "He Shall Feed His Flock." While I was singing the latter, I sang it to her. I focused on her. The song touched her heart and I saw her wipe away some tears from her eyes. I promised her that I would visit her again next Sunday and left her with my name on a piece of paper and a hug.

Taste of Heaven

If you can eat heaven, I think this is what it would taste like. Doesn't that sound so great? I looked it up about ten minutes ago because Spencer, my roommate, brought some home for us and they were amazing! And it's way easy to make! I am going to make it next week probably and share it with many of you because I might have a heart attack if I eat all of it by myself. Or maybe I should make it for my birthday. Or I should do both...

Anyways, today I am going to make this and I even bought PB and imitation-Nutella for it (I don't usually buy them because they are probably all I would eat until they are gone). Thanks to Liz who blogged about these cookies, I will have tons of fun making them, eating them, sharing them and *ahem* ding-dong ditching them.

A Great Day Comes With A Great Question

My day started out so great: I went to the temple and got to be a proxy for a guy named "Harry Marker" who was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania and on (wait for it...wait for it...) December 21, 1888!! If you know the significance of that day, you are my friend. Yes, he was born exactly a century before I was born! How cool is that! It's really cool. That's a blessing of going to the temple. Also, I got to see a friend who was in my freshman ward, and she is a missionary who is going to New York North mission Spanish speaking. It was really awesome to see her and talk to her for a very brief moment.

Another cool thing that happened is that I was looking for a parking spot on campus but of course, it is pretty difficult to find one. After driving around for few minutes, I just had a small and brief prayer to God that I would find a spot and no kidding! Just a few seconds after that I saw a parking spot and even after driving around to get to the parking lot, it was still empty! I even saw a minivan waiting for someone to leave! What a blessing!

Then I had an interview for an internship for next semester. It went really well and the lady who interviewed me told me that she would love it if I worked there but also wanted me to be trained soon. Now it is a great opportunity for me to start an internship and I know I would love it. I mean, this lady wants me! So here's that "great question" I was talking about. Should I take it?

Pros:
It looks good on my resume
It will be a good experience
I can get a letter of recommendation later
I will be actually helping people
I will find out how much I would like working with families

Cons:
Work hours are pretty crazy
I have to drive to American Fork once a week
It might be too much for me since I will be working and be in a research team
I really need to get good grades next semester
I can apply again next summer, still get in and not worry about everything above

I thought this was very appropriate
I am usually more prone to take an opportunity like this without thinking too much about it, but this time, I am thinking a lot more than I usually do. I am really going to pray and ponder about it for next day or two, and talk to some people about it.

I would love to give you some pep talks about this but my supervisors or my co-workers are going to read this so won't, but if you really think she is that great, you have to go for her and let her know that you are an awesome person that she should get to know.
(3:37:00 PM) commons_desk2@libraryh3lp.com/Home: She doesn't know that you think that way so if you show her that you are confident with yourself, she would be interested in you.

He Prepareth a Way

"...for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." -1 Nephi 3:7-
Many of you probably are very familiar with this verse but I want you to read it again and ponder about it. We believe that the Lord is omnipotent and omniscience; however, we sometimes forget what that means. Let's continue with Nephi's story. Nephi and his brothers tried to obtain the plates of brass twice without any success. After the first try, Nephi said:
"As the Lord liveth, and as we live, we will not go down unto our father in the wilderness until we have accomplished the thing which the Lord hath commanded us." -1 Ne 3:15-
Nephi was not about to give up because he knew why the Lord wanted them to have these plates:
"And behold, it is wisdom in God that we should obtain these records, that we may preserve unto our children the language of our fathers;
And also that we may preserve unto them the words which have been spoken by the mouth of all the holy prophets, which have been delivered unto them by the Spirit and power of God, since the world began, even down unto this present time." -1 Ne 3:19&20-
The last time he tried, he was "led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand" what he was going to do then he succeeded in obtaining the plates.

We receive revelations and know what the Lord wants us to do, but many times, we are not sure how to accomplish them. However, just like Nephi, we can continue to do what we think is right to do the Lord's will then He will guide us to accomplish His will. We should never be discouraged when things don't go right. We should never complain to God saying, "I thought this was what you wanted me to do but why can't I accomplish it?" We should always remember that if this is what He wants us to do, then He will provide a way but maybe we must come up with our own plans or ideas to accomplish it. Remember:
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." -Ecclesiastes 3:1-

Understanding My Patriarchal Blessing Pt 2

Before I explain anything, I want to ask you how much I should talk about my patriarchal blessing. Should I keep these things to myself? I feel like it is a great opportunity to share the gospel and hopefully inspire some of you.

This post is excerpts from Sunday and today.

Sunday, November 6, 2011
"I just realized as I was reading my patriarchal blessing about 'talents and opportunities and responsibilities' that the Lord has blessed me with. When I look back [in my life], there were so many opportunities in my life which I did not recognize. How grateful I am for my patriarchal blessing and the Holy Ghost that teaches me all the time! A very recent experience of this was from yesterday; I was thinking about applying for an internship in Provo and was working on my resume for it at work. R. (a friend) came by to talk to me and I found out that she works at this internship so I got to learn what [she does] so that I could tweak my resume for it. What an opportunity! Also, having worked at Head Start, I would be more qualified for this internship."
*Just for your information, Head Start is a government funded program that help children from low-income families.

Monday, November 7, 2011
"...I got an email from the place I applied an internship for and they want me to come in for an interview! ...I am so excited and what I said about opportunities are so true! Things just happen in my life and I go with it."
Seriously, things just happen in my life and I go with the flow. Think about how I got to live in a house with all the friends from the last ward (plus Spencer). The Lord truly has blessed me so much with these opportunities.

Dear Group Project,

I dislike you with greatest intensity that I can muster.

I dislike you when you give me lazy group members.

I dislike you when I have to pull all their dead weight.

I dislike you when everybody tries to do everything at the last minute.

I dislike you when I tell the group members that we should work on our project when we had time but they don't listen so we have to do it the day when it is due and everybody is super busy and tired so I have to do so much work for all of us to finish this (insert an angry word) project.

What I Tell Myself Everyday

I SHOULD BE STUDYING!!!!

(Maybe) Easy, Fun Dating Ideas

Of course, I got these ideas while reading one of my favorite blogs.

One is pudding painting. I have never done that before but it kind of sounds like fun, doesn't it? (or messy)

Aweeeeeeeesome!!!
Number two is making pizzas. You can make them in different shapes and decorate them into animals or something.
Those are cuuuuuute!
Last idea is painting rocks. You can paint them with different colors then draw faces on them.

OK, these are not the best example.
This one is better.
Don't they sound fun? I will probably do all of these sooner or later. (Probably later than sooner.)

My Best Quality

For the longest time, since I moved to the US, I thought that my best quality is my ability to smile/laugh at everything. It's not that I am making fun of you or of the situation. I just laugh and smile. I don't know why. I think it started when I moved here; I didn't understand a word people were saying so all I could do was smile. Now, it became a habit that I smile at everything. (Yes, I do understand words coming out of your mouth.) Don't you think it's my best quality? Or maybe my best quality is being Asian.

Doesn't this make you smile?

Opposition in All Things

If you have been following my blog for a little while, you should know how much this blog inspires me. This post is inspired by the same blog, especially this post. This morning I was reading Genesis 3:18,
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
What was so amazing about this verse is the footnote of "thorns" which says "opposition." I have to read my study journal to quote exactly what I learned from just that verse but here's my thought: Adam worked hard and did what was good in the sight of God when he was kicked out of the Garden of Eden; however, that didn't stop weeds to grow and trials to occur. When farmers sow seeds, they don't sow weeds at all; however, that doesn't stop weeds to come out. It is the same for our lives because we do our best to live our lives according to God's will and commandments but sometimes bad things still happen to us. It's not that we are sinning but it's just the way life works.
Christ had "thorns" in His life also.
I am going to quote some of the things Lori, the author of the blog I mentioned in the beginning, quotes in the post.
"A broken heart is an open heart and [the Savior] can fill it." -Truman Madsen-
"[The Holy Ghost]... fills up every longing of the human heart...When I am filled with that Spirit, … my soul is satisfied." -Eliza R. Snow-
And this is what she wrote about her husband who passed away:
"Wes hardly ever complained about having cancer.
It was inconvenient, of course.
Bothersome.
Didn't jive with all of his plans.
But he dealt with it very quietly. Tacked it onto his agenda as one trial among a long list of mortal grievances and simply went about life as usual, working hard, loving his children, loving me."
No, I have never even met who these people are but somehow and somewhere (probably from the 100 Hour Board) I found out about them and started reading their blog. It is touching and very inspiring to me. I hope I can be more like Wes who knew what it meant to have "thorns and thistles" in his life but never stopped living his life the way the Father wanted him to. No matter what happens in my life, I should look for the future and be positive.

This reminded me of Elder Wirthlin's talk.

I hope we all can say, "Come what may" and "love it."

Why Wouldn't I Be Sick?

So I felt like I was getting sick last night and of course, this morning I got up with cold.

Stress of writing a literature review for my Psychology class and of tests coming up next week and lack of sleep  combined forces with the evil virus to attack me. I lost the battle but the war is still going. I am at work right now with four layers of clothes and a scarf. I am not even supposed to dress like this at work but who cares? My supervisors don't work today and I am SICK! Even with this much clothes, I am still freezing! All I can think about is going home and wear another layer of clothes then bundle up in a blanket or two. That sounds like heaven!

I just got sick so I know tomorrow will be the worst day! I still have to study for a test on Monday! This is getting really ridiculous. I should have bought some soup!

I realized that whenever I am sick or pulled an all-nighter the night before, I get pretty easy going and stop caring about things. Nothing bothers me at work. :)

Understanding Dating: Thank You, The 100 Hour Board!

I looked up some questions that other people posted about dating because I have females friends who wonder if it's OK for girls to ask guys out. So I did some research where you find answers to your every question of life: The 100 Hour Board. Here are three that I really liked.

1. You know how guys feel.
Many guys are nervous to ask girls out on dates so this question was very "dear" to me because this girl started to understand how guys would feel. You, girls, start asking guys out; you will understand why some guys are scared to ask you out.

2. "Ask and ye shall receive."
I don't know about this whole "other country" business the werf (he/she) was talking about but if you are complaining about guys not asking you out, you can ask them out. It's no big deal. At least the guy will know that you are interested in him.

3. Stigma!
Guys should never get freaked out if a girl ask them out. For my first date ever in my life, I was asked out by a girl. I only freaked out because it was my first date but I thought it was pretty cool that she asked me out. Of course, it didn't work out since I was interested in someone else. Anyways, going back to what I was really talking about, I think girls should just go for it.

I couldn't find anything about some tactful ways for girls to ask guys out so I asked that question. Once they answer that question, I will update this post.

Update
So the 100 Hour Board basically said,
I'm going to say that girls should ask guys out in pretty similar ways to how guys should ask girls out (see here). Specify that you'd like to go on a date with them and suggest an activity. Be casual about it, but go for it. Board writers in the past have commented that most guys like getting asked out by girls, though girls shouldn't necessarily expect an immediate reciprocation of interest. Seriously. Just use the word 'date' but don't be creepy. Tell them you want to go see a concert, eat at a certain restaurant, etc. and you'd enjoy doing it with them. Go for it!
There it is. From the all-knowing Board.

The First "La Casa" Family Dinner

We planned to have a family dinner about on Sunday and this is an official La Casa (that's the name of our house) family dinner. We missed our other roommate Beau who was out of town. We had chicken, turkey sandwich, pasta salad, chips, taquitos, ice cream, and Sunkist. Very manly meal. :)

We are trying to figure out what we are going to have for next family dinner. Any suggestions?

A Haircut

On Sunday, I was thinking about how I need to do something to make myself feel better. I needed some kind of a drastic change but what could I do? Then I remembered an episode of Glee when Quinn character cuts her hair short to make herself feel better after breaking up with Finn. I thought that would be a pretty good idea since there isn't anything I can change except my hair.

I asked my friend, who was way excited that I was going to be Rufio for Halloween, if he would get mad at me if I decided not to be Rufio and to get a haircut. He was fairly disappointed but he understood how I was feeling at that time. So later that day, I called my friend, C, to get a haircut. She was actually giving a haircut to one of my roommates, S, so it worked out.

The best part of this story is that three of my roommates and I got haircuts from C, and two of us dyed their hair dark brown. My hair is way shorter than it was before but I am loving the every moment of it. I usually don't like haircuts because I am not used to it but this one is just amazing! I think it's because I was hoping to look different. Anyways, I feel like a new man.

I Love My Roommates

I have the most amazing roommates ever. One would give me phone numbers to suicide hotline. haha One would make me laugh by joking about things that are serious. One would relate what I am going through to what he has gone through in the past. I love them so much and I am very grateful that they are thinking about me and encourage me.

Posting Comments

I just realized that my blog doesn't let you post comments. Sorry! I honestly didn't know that. I will get it fixed.

Edited
I fixed the comment box so you can now post comments. Also, I changed the template and fixed some stuff for your convenience. As you have noticed, there's no bar thingy on top of the page so you have to use the tabs I created below the name of the blog.
Also, I will be changing the font to different colors, sizes, and types.

My Heavenly Father Loves Me Pt 3

Don't you just love it when you feel God's love for you through your friends or people around you? Don't you just love it when your friends see you as God sees you?

I might have to change the title of this post "I Am Blessed With Great Friends" because I am.

Friends who motivate me.
Friends who encourage me.
Friends who change me.
Friends who make me laugh.
Friends who comfort me.
Friends who put a smile on my face.
Friends who listen to me.
Friends who give me advice.
Friends who serve me.
Friends who uplift me.
Friends who teach me.
Friends who compliment me.
Friends who cheer me up.
Friends who see my potential when I don't see it.
Friends who love me as God does.
Friends who see me as God does.

I can feel God's love for me as I think about this because He has put these wonderful friends in my path. I will give you an excerpt from yesterday's journal.

This is awesome!
"I rode with C. and S. to the reception and on the way back...they started coming up with this list of qualities I possess. I was very grateful that they were there to cheer me up, and I don’t know if I showed it to them but I am very very grateful to them. They are so great! Also, S. told me that once she and some of the girls from Brownstone were playing a game and they asked each other who they admire from Brownstone and supposedly my name came up few times. This entire time I was judging myself, beating myself up, depressed, etc but people around me saw a wonderful man who has a strong testimony of the gospel. Wow, I can really fake it. I am just kidding. I felt so amazing to know that I could be an inspiration to other people." -From Thursday, October 20, 2011-
I love my friends. I wish I can be more like them to be a friend like they are to me.

PS: I am kind of, maybe, possibly working on another post about "My Path" at BYU after my mission but I just have been slacking off so I haven't touched it since like two months ago. Sorry. I will finish it soon so I can work on the next big project.
So cute
Before I talked about how my patriarchal blessing says that I need to choose my friends wisely but I feel like they choose me to be their friends rather than me choosing them, and I am so grateful (that's not a perfect word to describe how much I appreciate them) that they chose me.

Putting Myself in a Category

I've been reading about mood disorders today and I realized once again how people try to put themselves in some kind of category. There is a category among depression called "Depressive Disorder Not Otherwise Specified" which, as the name describes, is a depression that can't be categorized into other major types.

This is me everynight :( jk
The real reason why I was researching depression was to see if I was in any of the categories and I think I found that describes me: Recurrent brief depression (RBD). You should read about it; it's not very fascinating but I got a disorder or it seems. I don't need to put myself into some kind of category. The only categories I need to be in are Asian and LDS (unless I think of more).

So there it is; I have Recurrent Brief Depression. Hooray! I always knew I was suffering from depression but I never thought I would actually be in a category. (tear)
(PS: I hope you all know I am *cough* half *cough* kidding about the last sentence. Read it in a sarcastic tone.)

I completely forgot the main purpose for this blog. I was going to write something more meaningful than talking about how I have RBD. Oh well, I guess I will post another blog when I think of it.

Scripture Study

Today, I remembered what my mission president told me. He said, "If you are bored, read your scriptures." I echo the same words to you: "If you are bored, read your scriptures." Elder Scott said during the October 2011 General Conference that "scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high." I like studying the scriptures meaning I need to study them more so that I will start loving studying the scriptures. I got work to do for sure.
"Learning, pondering, searching, and memorizing scriptures is like filling a filing cabinet with friends, values, and truths that can be called upon anytime, anywhere in the world." -Elder Scott-
I have been trying to figure out the best time to study the scriptures but I have failed miserably so many times. This morning I woke up around 5:30 and read a text message from H who told me that she was "super happy" because she had a good morning study. As I lied on my bed, I thought about what she said and decided to get up so that I could study my scriptures before I left the house. I even changed my alarm from 6:30 to 6 so that I will have plenty of time to get ready and study the scriptures. Sacrifices are necessary and they are so worth it.

How is your scripture study? Do you study them daily? What is your main focus when you are studying them? What/who motivates you?
