Possible Graduate Schools

These are schools that I am thinking about applying to. I am actually going to get rid of one or two schools before I start applying (they might be one of SUNYs and Univ. of Cali.).
Schools I would like to get into are Reno, North Carolina, and Georgia.

*Updates 4/4/2012
I got rid of Baylor University and University of Arizona for one reason: It's way too hot in Texas and Arizona. After looking at climates, populations, locations, etc of different cities, I changed my favorites. Lighter blue ones are my favorites and darker blues are OK ones. But you know what, as long as I get accepted to somewhere, I don't care where I go out of these places.

Koreans in the Library

You should watch this first.

And then watch this (Warning! It's might be a little bit vulgar).

My Point is that I know when Koreans are in the library because I can hear their voices from some odd places in the library and I understand what they are saying. Funny thing is that right now, there are two Koreans at the Help Desk working on something on a laptop. It's just funny that they are super loud! I know it's not that they are trying to speak loud but that's just how they talk (refer to the second video). They are not saying anything bad about white people so don't worry. However, they are really really loud compared to other people here at the library. Pretty funny, I think.

You Won't Get It Unless You Grew Up Korean

This is the funniest blog about what it's like to grow up Korean. My brother can relate to it so much too. I love the comments about it.

A typical Korean family.
To add to the blog, you know you grew up Korean if you slept on the floor or only had mattresses on the floor. You know you grew up Korean if you sat on the floor when you had guests over. You know you grew up Korean if you recall all the tools your parents used to beat you up (we had a broken pool cue stick). You know you grew up Korean if you ate anything that your parents tell you is good for you. You know you grew up Korean if your pet dogs kept getting "stolen" and then you realize later that perhaps, they became a part of your parents or even you.

My Flirting Skills

I am trying to write as many posts as I can tonight.

You might be wondering what this post is all about. It's exactly as the title says; my flirting skills.

I don't believe that I have any skills at flirting because I am pretty much an open book. If you ask me anything, I will tell you, or I might tell you anything without you asking even things that you don't care to know at all. If that's what you call my flirting skills then I guess it is.

However, if I do flirt and you think I am flirting with you, I really have no clue that I am flirting. I don't flirt knowing that I am flirting. Perhaps, I do it without myself knowing that I am actually flirting (I seem to do a lot of things without knowing/being aware that I am doing them). Maybe I flirt by teasing... Hmm, I don't think that's a very good way to flirt since I don't like it too much when other people tease me.

Oh, just to let everyone know. I may be an idiot/moron but I am not a jerk. If I say something that offends you, I didn't mean it to be mean but I am just really dumb.

Smiley Kyoo

This girl is the cutest Korean girl ever!
I've known this for a while but it's always good to remind myself of this great and wonderful trait that God gave me.

I smile and laugh a lot.

I don't know if any of you noticed that but I do that. It's not because I am laughing at you nor I think something is really funny nor I am happy all the time. I honestly don't know why but I just do. Maybe just like what my friend, K., said if you squint your eyes, it seems like everything is better (you might have to say it again so I can quote you correctly, K.).

Anyhoosers, I just grew up smiling at everything and laughing at everything. It doesn't matter how un-funny it may be, I still smile. I know it's a gift because no one seems to mind the fact that I do this (if you do mind, you better tell me so I wouldn't smile or laugh in front of you).

PS: Oh, did everyone realize how I put a period after parenthesis? That's APA style for you.
PPS: If you want to look up more pictures of that cute Korean girl, Google 붕어빵 민하. That's Korean so just copy and paste.

Philosophy

You know what the problem is with Philosophy? No one knows what you are talking about. The worst part of it all is that you don't even know what your own philosophy is talking about.

In my mind, philosophy is like the picture on the left. It makes sense but it doesn't make any sense. It makes sense in your mind what is going on but it doesn't make sense in a way that it's impossible for it to occur like that. Philosophy also makes sense that it could work but at the same time, you don't know if it would actually work.

For my philosophy research paper, I was writing about synthetic a priori knowledge. If you don't know what that is, it basically means that you gain knowledge through innate ideas and that the predicate gives new information about the subject. An example of synthetic is "All bachelors are happy." That can be true or that can't be true. If you were to say, "All bachelors are unmarried," that doesn't give you new information about bachelors because "bachelor" means that a man is not married. An example of a priori is time because you can't gain knowledge of time through sense experiences. You know that time exists because you have innate ideas of time (or that's what Kant believed). Now that you are thoroughly confused, I will tell you what I was writing about. Just kidding. I won't tell you what I was writing about but I was really confused when I suggested a new way of proving the existence of synthetic a priori propositions. I knew it made sense but I couldn't wrap my head around it so I read it over and over again. Even after reading it so many times, I still wasn't able to wrap my head around it so I decided to leave it alone because I knew it made sense. I couldn't understand my own logic! I felt really dumb after that.

I've Been to China Before

So I haven't told you about this before, I will explain this to you.

I was at the temple months ago and this elderly man came up to me and started asking me questions.
Man: Where are you from?
Me: Illinois.
Man: Where are your parents from?
Me: South Korea.
Man: That's great! I've been to China before.
Me:...That's...cool.

The reason why I tell you this story is because it happened again just now. A man came to the help desk where I am working looking for volumes of books. As I was helping him, he asked:
Man: Where are you from?
Me: Illinois.
Man: Oh, I've been to China before. That's why I ask.
Me:...Cool. (Changing the subject) So the book you are looking for...

Yep...

Morning Person

I am definitely a morning person. Recently, my body decided that I can live off of 6-7 hours of sleep. This morning I woke up at 5 when my alarm was set for 6:30. I just decided to get ready and came to the library to work on some stuff. I got so much done until I started working. I can't even focus anymore when I am reading something. Maybe it's the fact that I am working and hungry but my mind feels so much clear when I just woke up.

I like waking up early in the morning because I feel like it gives me more time to do things throughout the day. I hate waking up late and feeling like the day is almost over.

True Thoughts Part 5

Before you read this, I really want you to read it as it is without any judgments because it's my thoughts and the intro to this post is straight from my journal (so you know how legit these thoughts are). Oh, also, you are going to read some really deep and honest thoughts so be prepared for that. (Don't worry, I go through this phase time to time. You will know what I am talking about.)

An excerpt from Friday, March 16, 2012.
"While I was at the library in the evening, I had this thought that it is sad to know that there are so many women who don't get a chance to be married. How lonely they must feel! How worthless they must feel! I feel lonely and worthless now so I understand a little bit of how they feel but think  about how all these beautiful daughters of God would feel! how would you feel if your own daughter doesn't get asked out on dates and she feels so [depressed and] lonely? It would break [your] heart. It breaks my heart to think that daughters of God don't know their beauty and worth..."
I am not saying that all the girls don't recognize that they are daughters of God and that they are beautiful, but I am saying that at times, they do feel lonely and depressed. Of course, you can argue that your worth and beauty do not depend by the external world, but the truth is that whatever your opinion of this might be, it's still true that the external world influence how you view yourself and how you feel.

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, young men are frequently asked/commanded/forced to go on dates. It is true that young men learn different skills as they date, learn about themselves, and find out the types of girls they would like to get to know better. However, I believe, on top of those three reasons, that they are asked to go on dates because there are too many young women who don't get asked out on dates. I do not wish to make it sound like women are weak and can't find dates or don't have capacity to go on dates with their own way; however, the social norm constrains women from asking guys out (not that they can't but it still doesn't feel right to many people, both men and women, which I think is sad). *(One more thing: even if I only talk about one side of views, it doesn't mean that I don't believe in the other side of views.)

I just thought this was appropriate.
They are dates if you are wondering.
Why do general authorities keep telling young men to go on dates? I believe that they do so because they understand that there are so many young women who don't get to go on dates, because they understand that young women feel so worthless and sad that guys are not interested in them (or they think guys are not interested in them), and because they feel God's love for them.

If you, (young) men, still don't understand this or this doesn't seem to have any impact on you, imagine your sister (if you don't have a sister, imagine your future daughter) coming home with a sad countenance. She tells you how worthless she feels because she never gets asked out on dates and that guys are not interested in her. She starts to have low self-esteem and is dissatisfied with her body image. What would you tell her? You would comfort her and encourage her. You would be sad to see her like this. It's not about money. It's not about time. It's not about you (all the time).

It obviously took me a very, very long time to realize this but I hope not all of you would have to.

3,000

Thanks, everyone. I am glad someone reads my blog. I just passed 3,000 views. Also, a huge thanks to Russians who seem to find my blog quite often for some odd reason.
