I've Been to China Before

So I haven't told you about this before, I will explain this to you.

I was at the temple months ago and this elderly man came up to me and started asking me questions.
Man: Where are you from?
Me: Illinois.
Man: Where are your parents from?
Me: South Korea.
Man: That's great! I've been to China before.
Me:...That's...cool.

The reason why I tell you this story is because it happened again just now. A man came to the help desk where I am working looking for volumes of books. As I was helping him, he asked:
Man: Where are you from?
Me: Illinois.
Man: Oh, I've been to China before. That's why I ask.
Me:...Cool. (Changing the subject) So the book you are looking for...

Yep...
