I had a pretty crappy day yesterday. I woke up at 3:30 in the morning and couldn't go back to sleep. I was probably too excited to sleep or something but that excitement faded away when I checked my email.
The rest of the day did not improve because giving tours to new students is not fun at all. It's annoying and very tiring. On top of this fire, my work schedule added some more fuel. (Yes, I hated my schedule because I have work and classes right after one another.) On top of that the off-campus housing denied my waiver. Nothing happened as I hoped.
Yes, I could say it was the worst day of my life. Yes, I could say that I would have given up everything and gone to bed early. However, I reflected on what Joey said about how I kept bringing up my friend's "huge zit" (not really a zit) to laugh and make myself feel better. I did laugh a lot today. I just chose to feel down and have a negative attitude all day. I didn't think about how much fun I had helping new students, talking to my co-workers and friends, enjoying my time with many friends while watching some movies, etc. I did have a great day. Why didn't I recognize it before? I was too obsessed with all the bad things that happened today that I didn't see all the good things that happened. Now I think about it, all the "bad" things weren't that bad at all. They just annoyed me but they either worked out or they will work out eventually. It's no big deal.
Nothing that happened is like a life-or-death situation. I don't have to make extreme choices or it's not life threatening. It's not a big deal so why did I make a big deal out of them?
"Wherefore, ye must press forward with steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men." -2 Nephi 31:20-
"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes." -D&C 121:7-8-
Classic but how much I lacked that steadfastness, hope, and endurance as I went about this day. I have to always look for good in my life and try to magnify them to fill my life. Nothing should get me down. I should always think of them as trials which will eventually strengthen me for worse events. There is an opposition in all things and I feel like I had the best and the worst time yesterday because I experience one to experience the other.
I learned a very valuable lesson which I hope to remember for the rest of my life. I choose to be happy. I choose to smile. I choose to laugh. I choose life.
