I Work at a Zoo Called "Library" Part 20

I was on my way to get the most delicious and addictive cookies on campus. As I walked out the Periodicals room, these two girls stopped me to ask me a question.

Girls: (Pointing at the Periodicals room) Is that the library?
Me: Uhhhhhh, that's a part of the library.
Girls: Then where is the library?
Me: (Way confused and pointing at the whole building) This is the library.
Girls: Ohhhh, OK. Thanks!

What did they think the whole building was? Campus?

Fact: The biggest library in the world is the U.S. Library of Congress!

God HAS Answered My Prayers

I started reading Hearing the Voice of the Lord by  Elder Gerald Lund for the fifth time (OK, maybe the third time). This time I am going to read the chapters that I really need to learn and study first.

Right now, I am reading about why God wouldn't answer our prayers (or it seems to us that He doesn't). One thing I realized is that perhaps He already has answered my prayers but I am not willing to follow those answers or accept them. Am I asking God for something over and over again because what He told me isn't what I wanted to hear? Because I am looking for a sign of what I wanted to hear, I probably can't even see His great mercy and love for me.

A story that Elder Lund related for this concept was this:
A returned missionary in the ward had been home about a year. He came to me one day and said that he was struggling to know what to do with his life. He felt that he was going nowhere. He had a construction job and was making good money, but he felt that construction wasn't what he wanted to do as a career. After a couple of counseling sessions, I said: "I feel impressed to say to you that what the Lord wants you to do is sell that new pickup truck you recently bought, break off the relationship with the girl you are currently dating, and go to college."
For a moment, he just looked at me, clearly shocked. Then he shook his head sadly. "I couldn't do that, Bishop," he said. "If I sell my truck, I'll lose a lot of money on it. And I really love this girl. And besides, why should I go to college? I've got a good job. Isn't there something else I can do?"
Do you see something wrong with this guy's response? However, can we judge him without judging ourselves? I feel like sometimes that happens to me; I might think that there has to be another way or something better. The only way for me to really listen and know that He has answered my prayers is through humility and praying to know His will for me instead of praying for what I want or what I think I need in my life.

I was working 'till 2 AM this night when these events happened.

This guy gets up and yells, "Yea!" then grunts some more really loud. And then everyone starts clapping for him. The guy leaves the library with pride and very satisfied look on his face.

This girl comes up to the desk and asks, "Can you print for free?" I am like, "What?" She responds, "I work at the printing office and I print for free there so can you print for free?" I kindly say, "You are an idiot. How the heck would I know you really work there and how does that give you any rights to print for free here?" No, I didn't say that. I told her, "You are a patron here so you have to use your card to print." Then she adds, "OK, I will just print tomorrow." What the...

Another School Year Gone

I finished my last final today. I am done. Another school year is gone and I have one more year left until I graduate. One more year until I go to a graduate school somewhere in the U.S.

My plans for Spring and Summer: Work 40 hours/week, study for GRE, take GRE, play hard...that's all I got so far. I should try to do something more productive. Then again, taking GRE is pretty productive.

I think I am going home on July 28th. My brother and his girlfriend are driving from Illinois to Utah to pick me up then to Sacramento, CA. I will only be home for 4 to 5 days I think.

As far as everything else goes, it is up in the air. I don't know how my life is going to be like. I am also thinking about being in a research team this Spring/Summer without credit. It might be a possibility but I need to sleep on it and think about it.

All Things Bright And Beautiful

Easter came and went...

I enjoy seeing these trees everyday when I go outside.

Looking up at my house from the front lawn.

What I see everyday when I walk outside.

Some people enjoyed nice warm weather on Easter.

Ants liked the Sun too...and my leg.

Looking up from where I was.

The end of Easter.

I heard a noise outside and when I looked out, I saw a woodpecker. Not a very rare sight in Provo.

Banana bread I baked on Sunday. Will be great for my home-teachees.

The cloud looked like a wiener dog.

Why I Look Up Often

I look up often. I love clouds. I love the sky. I love trees. I love buildings. I love how everything just compliments each other.

When was the last time you looked up and couldn't take your eyes off of whatever you were looking at?

This morning as I was walking on campus, I saw a jet plane fly by. As it did so, it created "clouds" (I actually don't know if they are considered clouds) behind it and those clouds with the Sun created shadows on clouds above them. Kind of like the picture on the right.

I absolutely loved it. I thought it was one of the coolest things ever. Man-made clouds and natural clouds made such beauty.

Then I looked around me. I saw people walking by, looking at their books, working on something...busy. Too busy to look up at something so beautiful. They were missing out. I wanted to stop someone and tell them to look up at what I was looking at. I wanted to share what I loved. But I didn't. I didn't because I knew people would have thought that I was crazy or weird. They probably wouldn't have cared as much as I did.

Am I too busy to see what's around me? Am I too caught up with worries? Do I give more time to God and His creations to appreciate them more often?

Not My Thoughts

If you haven't been following my blog for a long time, I have posts called "True Thoughts." They talk about my real thoughts with small filters on them. Some of them come straight from my journal entries.

This post is called "Not My Thoughts" because I learned a valuable lesson.
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord." -Isaiah 55:8-
Perhaps, instead of thinking about what I desire, I should focus on what the Lord desires from me. What the Lord thinks that I should do is way different than what I would like to do.
Sometimes I ask the Lord for something to happen, but it turns out that He doesn't want it to happen so that something else that He has in mind to happen. Most of times I don't know His will for me. I don't know what He would like me to do. However, I am glad that He knows what He wants me to do and His will for me because if I got everything I wanted, I would not have faith in God or would not have learned to be patient.

Celebrating Easter Weekend

I didn't grow up as a christian and never celebrated Easter in my life. I didn't know anything about Easter bunnies or egg hunting before I came to the U.S. Actually, I didn't know anything God or Christ so Easter itself wasn't a part of my life at all.

However, for a week, my New Testament class teacher talked a lot about celebrating Easter. Not with chocolate bunnies or egg hunting but by thinking about Christ and reading about the last week of His mortal life. I thought a lot about how I could celebrate Easter weekend. The only way for me to celebrate Easter is through reading about the Atonement, the crucifixion, and His resurrection. Also, by sharing my own testimony of Christ with others. Also, I would like to share this short clip of 7 minutes about the last week of Christ's mortal life.

Christ did bleed at every pore and suffered so much because He loves us and wants us to be able to return to our Heavenly Father. It is impossible for us to do so by ourselves but He "bought" us with His life as a price and set a new "term" for us to return to God. The new "term" is that we keep His commandments and repent.
"For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;
But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I;
Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—
Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men." -Doctrine and Covenants 19:16-19-

The death of the Savior came on the cross; however, He taught us that the death is not the end.

"And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have." -Luke 24:36-39-
"But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." -John 20:24-29-
Let us all remember Christ during this Easter weekend and remember the most important works He had done during these last few days of His mortal life.

Possible Graduate Schools

These are schools that I am thinking about applying to. I am actually going to get rid of one or two schools before I start applying (they might be one of SUNYs and Univ. of Cali.).
Schools I would like to get into are Reno, North Carolina, and Georgia.

*Updates 4/4/2012
I got rid of Baylor University and University of Arizona for one reason: It's way too hot in Texas and Arizona. After looking at climates, populations, locations, etc of different cities, I changed my favorites. Lighter blue ones are my favorites and darker blues are OK ones. But you know what, as long as I get accepted to somewhere, I don't care where I go out of these places.
