I Am Blessed, Blessed, Blessed

One of my favorite hymns is Because I Have Been Given Much. Due to copyright issue, I couldn't link the title to a score for the song but I still wanted to post the lyrics.

"Because I have been given much, I too must give.
Because of thy great bounty, Lord each day I live.
I shall divide my gifts from thee with every brother that I see,
who has the need of help from me.

"Because I have been sheltered, fed by thy good care…
I cannot see another’s lack and I not share-
my glowing fire, my loaf of bread-my roof’s safe shelter over head,
that he too may be comforted.

"Because I have been blessed by thy great love dear Lord,
I’ll share thy love again according to thy word.
I shall give love to those in need. I’ll show that love by word and deed,
thus shall my thanks be thanks indeed."

I always feel what first line of ever verse but I neglect to think about the rest of the song. Because I have been blessed with so many things, I need to share it and give it to others. I need to "return the favor" so to say. God didn't ask us to return the favor to Him directly but serve others, give them what I have, and share what I own.

R to L: Quentin, Cristy, Lori and Tausha
I was thinking about this song when I was reflecting on last night, when I was hanging out with Cristy and Lori Crawford last night, and I realized how blessed I was to know them. (I hope you read this, Cristy and Lori) They are great friends who would listen to me talking about EVERYTHING. I really don't think there's anything I didn't inform them of. I haven't seen them for a long time so we had a lot to catch up on. Great friends help you understand how much you need to be loved and need others to rely on. Friends do make who you are.

A service project at USC
(Back to the song.) The song teaches the truths and more understanding of the scriptures Mosiah 2:17 and Matthew 25:40. When we serve others, we serve God also. By sending us to those in need, we become God's messengers or His instruments so we are serving Him. We also receive blessings of becoming His angels. (Watch or read The Ministry of Angels by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland)

Mormon Helping Hands
Heavenly Father didn't just hand all the blessings to us without expecting anything in return. He wants us to help those who are in need, those who have less than we do. Some of us don't have much at all but there are always other people who have less than we do. We can help them because the Lord has blessed us. We have the Gospel, the good news, when many people don't. I've been blessed with learning about the Gospel when I was 13 and it was my job and my duty to share this good news with people in Los Angeles, California.

"Count your blessings; see what God hath done. Count your blessing; name them one by one. Count your many blessings; see what God hath done." Count Your Blessings

Fun Classes I Want To Take

I realized that I am on my last two years of college left. Since I decided not to minor in Spanish, I got plenty of room to take any classes I want to take. Honestly, I am really interested in taking all the classes but I don't know if I will have enough time to take them. Here are some of them:

1. STDEV 317R - Grad School Strategies
I was talking to my co-worker about this class, and she loved it and highly recommended it to me. I am going to take this class either coming Fall or Winter no matter what. This class teaches how to prepare for GRE, how to work on your resume, what you need to know about applying to graduate schools, etc. It will be like a mission prep or marriage prep class except it's for grad school.

2. SFL 110 - Food Preparation in the Home
My roommate, Quentin, took this class and he enjoyed it very much. I am also interested in cooking and I want to learn to use different spices to make my food taste better. I am not saying my food tastes bad now but I think if I learned to use different spices, I would be better able to find the right combinations of spices to create amazing food. I can just see myself in a kitchen with one of those spice holders cooking like a mad man. That would be a dream come true.

3. MUSIC 117 - Basic Guitar Skill
I am sure many of you didn't know that I own a guitar. Yes, I do. I don't have a really nice one or am really good at it but I play it time to time. Currently, I don't have a song I am working on but I am thinking about either Billionaire by Bruno Mars or I'd Rather Be With You by Joshua Radin. Either way, I still have a lot to learn since I never had gotten a real lesson before. This class would be a good way to reform my foundation and get better at it.

4. MUSIC 111R - Basic Vocal Skills
Did I tell you that I love singing? Well, I do. Since I've started watching Glee, I am more into singing than before. If I knew BYU had a class for singing, I would have taken this class years ago but now I know they do so I will take this class for sure. Unless, someone will teach me how to sing really well for free. I guess I can watch tons of Youtube videos but I want someone to really teach me and do some hands-on lessons.

5. VAPHO 116 - Introduction to Photography
Did you know that I love taking pictures? I always think about how certain scene would be best portrayed by taking a picture of it in certain angles. Since I don't know anything about that, I usually just go with whatever feels right and most of the times, my gut feelings were wrong. This would set a good foundation of photography for me and I would be really looking for the "right moment" pictures. The only problem with this is that this class could be only for Photography majors. Why can't they offer a basic class for every major so people can learn to enjoy them?

6. SFL 102 - Introduction to Interiors
Why interior design class? Because I hate it when pictures or paintings are not hung straight. Also, I want to learn to positioning the furniture to make the most space for everything and matching all the furniture to each other. I also like decorating rooms. I mean, why not? If I had my own house, I would like to decorate it on my own (or with my family). I am also horrible at colors so this will help me figure out what color goes well with what color.

I am sure you might think some of them are very femmy but I disagree with that statement. It's not "femmy" to learn how to cook or design. It's a skill that you can develop. God wants everyone to learn as much as they can to serve others and I am willing to learn what interests me if I can develop those talents. I am doing what I want and I know someday they will come in handy. It's always good to be diverse.

I Work at a Zoo Called "Library" Part 4

Today is one of my favorite days at work.

(I got a chat from a patron asking about using a database. I just finished helping him.)
Patron: Thank you.
Me: No problem.
Patron: Do you want to go on a date? This Friday?
Me: How do you even know if I am a guy or a girl?
Patron: The Spirit.
Me: OK. Which one am I?
Patron: The Spirit tells me you are a girl.
Me: Well, I guess you are not very in-tuned with the Spirit.
Patron: Ouch. Thanks. Bye.
There were so many things I could have said to him but I think that was the least mean thing I could have said. I mean, think about it. I just got asked out by a DUDE who thought I was a GIRL!

(This story happened few hours after the chat. It's not related to the chat at all.)
After enjoying my little snack, the mother nature was calling me. As I was walking to the bathroom by the Periodicals, I see an older gentleman walking towards the bathroom very slowly, almost like lingering there. Then a guy comes out of the bathroom and starts greeting the older man. I didn't think much of that...because there was nothing much going on, but while I was still processing what just happened, a girl with a heavy looking backpack walks out of the guys bathroom and enters the ladies bathroom. When I entered the bathroom, I saw a guy by one of the urinals and all I could think about was how embarrassing it must've been for her to walk in and see a guy peeing. What I don't understand is how she walked out after that one guy. I mean think about it, she walks in without realizing it was guys bathroom but didn't walk out until some guy did? Maybe he was drying his hands or walking out when she walked in. That's really embarrassing.

O Remember Remember

President Spencer W. Kimball stated that perhaps the most important word is "remember."

Do you write in your journal? Do you take pictures? Do you record it on your camera?

When I started writing in my journal, I didn't start to remember what was happening around me but to let out my feelings out open. I felt so smothered by everything going on and I needed a way to express my feelings without stressing others out. I never really had, what you call, "best friends;" someone who would listen to you no matter what, who you can always trust, who is always there for you and comfort you, who always reminds you of your good qualities, and who always tells you that everything is OK. Don't get me wrong. I had great friends whom I had tons of fun with, but I just never had someone who would listen to everything I have to say. I guess it's my fault though because I was not willing to express my feelings to people. Maybe it's social thing: men are supposed to be strong and are not supposed to show emotions. Perhaps, culture. Or perhaps, it's just me.
Anyways, my journals have been my "best friends" ever since. They know my feelings, thoughts, secrets, complaints, doubts, beliefs, girls I loved was attracted to, and so on. The most important thing they remember is my mission. I have written everyday of my mission. I didn't miss a single day since I entered the MTC. I knew that the mission would be a very important chapter of my life and I didn't want to miss anything. I wanted to remember everything. I learned to write important events in my journal throughout my mission along with my feelings. I look back and read my mission journals time to time and I remember the days that were hot, the days when it rained, the days of baptisms, the days of failures, the days of laughter, the days of tears, the days of pure joy... I remember them.

I have taken plenty of pictures on my mission. I didn't start taking a whole lot until I was with Elder Joshua Loveless. He would always take his cameras out to take pictures of members, graffiti, flowers, sunsets, etc. Ever since then, I tried to take more pictures so that I don't just have words to remember them by but pictures. Sometimes I wish I could just take mental pictures of everything. I don't want to forget the beauty around me, people around me. They are too precious to forget.
I was lying down (I had to look this up to make sure I understood the difference between "laying" and "lying.") down on grass by my apartment and was trying to read "The Miracle of Forgiveness" but it wasn't going too great since I was just amazed by the beauty of God's creations. As the sun was going down, its orange light hit some clouds which created the beauty of nature. It wasn't dark yet  You could see clouds turning orange and to contrast that, the shadow of the sunset covered other parts of the clouds. My best part was the sunlight shining through the gaps between the clouds making rays of light. I was lying there thinking that I should go up to my apartment and get my camera, but I didn't. I just didn't want to leave what I was seeing. I didn't want it to go away while I was gone. Now I think about it, I think the beauty of nature is everything surrounding what you call "beauty." I like really seeing it rather than looking at a picture of it because I can see the surrounding of what I am looking at. The sunset with clouds was complimented by buildings, trees, mountains, and cars. Man-made objects show the true beauty of God-made objects.

Pictures are a good way to remember the moment; however, video recordings are the best way to remember sounds, movements, and everything you see. I have recorded various of things on my mission: my companion having a balloon fight with a 7-year-old boy, missionaries singing, skits we did at a convalescent home, and people I met. Watching videos help me remember exactly what people said and what they sounded like. Things that pictures can't show you. Things that journals can't tell you. If I could record everything I experience, I could replay it over and over again and never forget anything. I wouldn't forget the moments of my happiness, of trials, of sorrow, of friendship, of love, and of anger.

I want to remember everything that affected me either positively or negatively. Maybe, that's why I like the background of my blog; it's gray like my memory but I still remember. Or maybe it's like me, I look plain with no fun but I am still complicated, but even among complexities, there's a little phone booth to make everything simple again. Remembering them will only make me strong and grow to be more perfect like Christ. He experienced them all and He became perfect physically, emotionally, spiritually. Memories are precious to me. Memories are what make me who I am.

Learning Truths From Songs

This is a song by a Korean band called G.O.D. (I don't know what they stand for). It was made in 2004 and it's called "Gil" or a road/path/street. I used to listen to them growing up. Yes, they are a boys band but that's all they got in Korea. I am going to write the loose translation of the song at the bottom. (It is super hard to translate perfectly. I could have two versions of the translation: line by line translation or paragraph by paragraph translation. I am going to do paragraph by paragraph because that doesn't sound too choppy.

"I don't know where this path is going,
where it's taking me,
where it's going to end up,
but even today I am still on the path.
(*Note: the part where a guy repeats the same sentence three times, he's saying 'I don't know' or more accurately, 'I can't figure it out.')
"People don't know if the path has been chosen
or they have to choose for themselves,
but I am on the path again.
(Chorus)"Why am I on this path?
Is this really my path?
Will my dream come true at the end of this path?
"I want to know what makes me happy.
Is it wealth, fame, or people I love?
I still can't find the answer.
"I want to say that it's my path with confidence
and I want to believe that.
I want to walk without looking back and without a regret
but I am still not confident.
(Chorus)"Why am I on this path?
Is this really my path?
Is my dream come true at the end of this path?
"What am I dreaming?
Who is this dream for?
Will I be able to smile when the dream comes true?
Where am I going now?
What am I supposed to live for?
(Chorus)"Why am I on this path?
Is this really my path?
Will my dream come true at the end of this path?
"Why am I on this path?
Is this really my path?
Will I be able to smile when the dream comes true?"

Now you might be wondering why I posted a Korean song that you don't understand and translated the whole song. Because I sometimes feel exactly the same way. I am sure everybody does time to time. "Am I supposed to be doing this?" "Am I supposed to be studying this?" "Am I supposed to be staying here?" We wonder what we are doing is exactly what God wants us to do. I pray and ask them what I should do but most of the times, I don't get this warm, fuzzy feeling that everybody talks about. So what do I do? I just go on with my life and make whatever I feel is right. I think mostly the Lord just presents to me what I should do or the path I should take like Beau, my roommate, buying a house so that I could move in with him and bunch of my friends.

What I don't understand about this music video though is a box and an egg. What are they supposed to represent? I understand the part where they see a road sign on their maps and see the exact same things in real life. (For example, one guy has a road sign of a kid and he sees a kid on the road.) I understand that on the path I am taking, certain things and people are placed there for me. I think this music video is very symbolic.

"I Wasn't Born Here!" Part 2

Two Saturdays ago, I had a privilege of being one of my friends' groomsman. I got a green tie to match with their theme color (or whatever you call that). What I didn't know was that I was supposed to wear that at his wedding reception which was today. I got there in black shirt with white stripes. I didn't know I was supposed to dress up for that! I wasn't born here! Also, it was my first time being a groomsman. I didn't have anybody else to tell me how things work!

My Heavenly Father Loves Me

Do you remember singing My Heavenly Father Loves Me as a child? I certainly don't because I have never been to Primary, but when I listened to it for the first time (which was on my mission), I just fell in love with the song.

Today, something happened that reminded me how much He loves me and cares about everything little thing I care about. I've been thinking recently that I have too much free time at night. If I wanted, I could get extra hours at work to make more money. Then I started thinking about how I could do some volunteer work to use my time wisely. One of the ideas I got was volunteering at a mental hospital by my apartment. It's close enough to walk there and it will be good for my resume since my major is Psychology. Another idea I got was volunteering at a Head Start program. I've volunteer there three years ago and I loved teaching kids and playing with them. Also, I am fairly good with kids and I realized that even more on my mission.
Anyways, I've been wondering which one I should do for few days, but I haven't considered it as a matter of prayer but God knows it all. Today, when I came home from working extra in the morning, I saw Stacy who is in my ward was playing with her (I think) nieces. I was invited to play with them and as I was playing with them, I realized what I needed to do. I need to volunteer at the Head Start. It will be so much fun and I will enjoy it so much. I don't know if they are open during Summer but if not, I can volunteer during Fall and Winter. I just know that this is what I have to do. God has given me this opportunity to help me realize what I enjoy and show me my talent that I didn't recognize before.

Alma 18:32 states "...Yea, and he looketh down upon all the children of men; and he knows all the thoughts and intents of the heart..."

Kyoo Likes What?

I am sure many of you love doing something that no one about, like you wear ugly flannel shirts when you go to bed or you still listen to Backstreet Boys and sing along. Well, I got few of those and I am not embarrassed to disclose it. (By the way, I don't do any of those two I listed above.)

1. I love looking at recipes of food.
Orzo Salad: my next experiment
I don't mind cooking. I mean I would love for someone to cook for me all the time but I can cook for myself. The only thing I don't like about cooking is that I have to buy all these ingredients to cook. That takes time and mostly too much money, but I do it for food! For cooking! I really enjoy cooking. I don't know when it started it but even during freshman year in college, I cooked all the time since I didn't have a meal plan or anything. Now, I cook and try to come up with really strange, yet delicious food. I even think about what I am going to make, what ingredients I have at home, how I am going to cook (blank), and things like that as I walk home or when I am at work. Therefore, looking at recipes are essential for me to figure out what kind of things I could make and I can make changes, if necessary, according to my budget and what I have at home. So far as my cooking experience goes, I have never made anything that takes terrible. They were all really good.

2. I love window shopping. (and occasional real shopping.)
I love going to a mall and going into different stores to look at what they have. I rarely buy anything at the mall because they are all stinking expensive and I can usually find anything cheaper, but still has the same design or whatever I am looking for, at Ross or online. My favorite stores to go to are Hot Topic, any male (clarification) clothing stores, and Bath and Body Works. Why do I like shopping so much? I have no idea. However, I like it more when I am with some friends especially girls because I can talk to them about what kind of clothes they like, what would look good on me, and other very important shopping tips. Kind of gay you say? You tell me what kind of a girl wouldn't like to go shopping. I can ask any girl and go shopping with me. Like I said before though, that's not why I ask them come along with me. Their opinions are valuable when I go shopping because I buy clothes that girls like which means I will look good to them. But seriously, why do I like shopping? I don't know... I just don't know.

3. I like Glee. (emphases on "like," not "love.")
Yes, I admit it. I like Glee. I have never watched it before until few weeks ago when I got exposed to it while my roommate, Beau, was watching it, but I didn't start watching it until few days ago when my other roommate, Jared, was watching some episodes. Ever since that day, I got addicted to Glee. I love its songs, its music, and its story. I guess that takes me to another secret love.

4. I love musical/Broadway.
I only listened to one before because my freshman year roommate, Ian, introduced it to me. (He used to be a Music/Dance/Theater major.) The Broadway musical he introduced to me was called "The Last Five Years." Some of the songs are way funny, some of the songs portray love, and some portray disappointments. I would recommend you to read the lyrics of the songs before you listen to them because some of the songs have some words that you might not like to hear. Other than this, I don't think I listened to any other musicals but if you got any recommendations, I will look into them.

5. I love my plant.
I have a plant called Cyclamen. It's an indoor plant which doesn't need direct sunlight. When I decided that I was going to buy a plant, I did tons of research and looked at different plants to see what would be the best indoor plant and would have pretty flowers. I found this plant at a flower shop and they had really pretty flowers so I bought it. After buying the plant, I googled it to figure out what kind of care it needed from me. So far, I haven't killed the plant yet. As a matter of fact, it is very lively and it had many more flowers bloom since I got it. I am also surprised at how much I care for this plant. I make sure I don't water it too much, it gets enough and not too much sunlight, and it has enough soil. Yes, I do take a good care of it. I even had someone asking me how to take care of her plant which was, I think, Chinese Lily. I know my stuff.

6. I love blogging!
Have you not noticed it yet? I started blogging more since Spring term started because usually I work 6-8 hour shift which means I need to figure out what I would do during that time. You can read anything so much and you can stare at people for so long. Blogging was my way of spending my valuable time writing down my valuable thoughts and opinions. (You can see that since April, the number of posts per month increased.) This blog is more for me than for others because as far as I can tell, no one actually reads this except me and I can record a lot of things that I wouldn't write in my journal. (For one thing, it's way too long for me to jot them down.) I don't know if I will blog this much when the school starts but I will do my best to post something frequently.

My Path: Mission

I was sitting way back in my friend's ward listening to babies crying, kids whining, and my friend giving his homecoming talk. His talk was on our paths and destinations. He talked about his mission and miracles he saw. I was absolutely absorbed in memories of my mission as he talked about the individuals he taught. As I thought about each one of them, it started to rain in the building...

Here are some pictures of wonderful people I met on my mission. These are NOT everybody. I love all of you whom I met on my mission. Read at the bottom about some of the pictures.

#1. My MTC district. I was so blessed to meet them and get to know them. My path interlocking with theirs was truly a tender mercy of the Lord to help me learn from each one of them. My companion, Elder Gardner, was the best companion I had ever. (He is the African American missionary.) I had so much fun with him learning Spanish, teaching with our poor Spanish, talking about our most embarrassing stories, walking around the MTC and me laughing at him whenever he trips for no reason, talking about "birds," etc. My teachers who were perfect for me to learn to be a missionary. Hermano Salmon, a brand new teacher, and Hermana Summers, a seasoned veteran teacher. I learned to love whom I teach and always teach by the spirit. I got chastised so that I can grow and become a better missionary. Being at the MTC was the best nine weeks of my life.

#2. Mama Amaya. She was such a sweet spirit. When she joined the Church many years ago, her own daughter kind of disowned her. She's always mean to her and it breaks Mama's heart when she can't see her grand children. Her grand daughter used to call her and talk to her for a long time but now she doesn't call her that often and doesn't talk to her for very long. It breaks my heart to see tears streaming down Mama's eyes as she tells us everything she has locked inside her because she has no one to talk to. Even with all these sadness in her life, she always brings happiness to the missionaries when she holds our hands (because she can't hug us) and tells us how much she loves us. You can't help but just love her.

#3. Oscar. He was really paranoid to go outside. He was a former investigator whom we decided to contact. The only place I've been into his house was the entrance to his house. He turned it into a little room and would sit there with us as we taught him. He remembered most of the lessons that the missionaries taught him in the past but he always talked about being afraid to go outside and getting killed. He told us how people marked his car with some white paint (which I thought were just bird poo) to kill him. Even rustling noise of blue tarp covering a fence by his house frightens him. We worked so hard with him and encouraged him over and over and assured him that no one is out there to kill him. As his baptism date approached, he said, "You guys are going to put me under water and keep me there until I die, but I don't care anymore." He made a huge improvement. He drove to church and even paid tithing. (He paid 10% of whatever he didn't pay since he stopped coming to the Church when the missionaries dropped him.) He was finally baptized.

#4. Sunny (her English name). Sunny came to the English class with her friend who was a member. We watched the Restoration DVD as our Spiritual message and she loved it. She started taking lessons from us, the Korean missionaries and the companionship who taught them the most was Elder Sung and Elder Brower.  She wasn't an exception to all the trials. Her uncle who knew about our Church said some negative things to her parents. Her parents called her and tried to stop her from joining the Church. She also had a problem with her student VISA which caused us to lose contact with her after her baptism. We don't know if she went back to Korea or if she's still here.

#5. Sam Johnson. All the missionaries in the picture taught him. He was an eternal investigator whom I taught vigorously when I was in the area. He learned most of the lessons he needed to be baptized by the past missionaries and I was determined to get him baptized and resolve any problems that stop him from getting baptized. He injured his knee years ago and was homeless then a pair of missionaries gave him a pass along card which was the cause of a long journey of his path to baptism. When I met him, he wasn't working but living with his girl friend. Every time he read scriptures, he had questions for us and we had answers for them. He was willing to make any necessary changes to be baptized. The hardest part about teaching him was that he takes medication for his knee and that makes him drowsy so we have to make the lesson short for him to stay awake and learn as much as possible. Unfortunately, I was transferred out of the area when I was so close of teaching him all the lessons; however, I got a call from sister missionaries few weeks later that Sam is getting baptized and asked me to baptize him. I couldn't hide the joy I felt as I hung up the phone and screamed "YES!!!! SAM'S GETTING BAPTIZED!"

#6. Keith Rennells. No missionaries found him; he just came to church and found us. There were five sets of missionaries in the ward and our ward mission leader was trying to find which missionaries cover the area in which Keith lived in. All the missionaries were passing around a piece of note with his address on it to each other. My companion and I were the lucky one. Keith's brother was a member of the Church and Keith knew it would bless his life tremendously and change his life. As we met with him and his family, we came to love them so much; however, his wife, Fabiola, was not interested in changing her religion but she always listened. They feed us time to time, joke with us, and made us laugh. We couldn't wait to go to their home and have a good time with them. Keith was amazing! He was so willing to do anything and everything to be baptized. He came to church every Sunday and kept his appointments all the time. His trial was his wife who would not let their daughter Destiny, 8 years old at that time, to get baptized. Despite these problems, he got baptized by his brother and was confirmed to be a member of the Church. However, his trials didn't end there. Problems with his wife, he moved out of the house and moved into an apartment, but he is faithful and attends the Church regularly.

#7. Josefina Bonilla. Every time I think about Josefina, tears start to form in my eyes; tears of joy and tears of sadness. One night, my companion and I were knocking a door after a door without any success. We told ourselves, "This will be the last door and after this we will go somewhere else." You know what happens whenever missionaries say that; nothing. But the Lord did bless us that day and when we knocked on that door, Josefina opened the door and was happy to see us. She invited us in and told us how she met the missionaries before but since she was about to move, she didn't have time to listen to their message but now here we were! She told us that she was going to be gone for a week or two to go to her mom's funeral in Mexico and we told her that we were guided by the Spirit to be there to talk to her. When we left her apartment, we contacted the missionaries who talked to Josefina before. (We guessed who they were and we were right) At the first appointment with her, we committed her to be baptized and set a date. However, she couldn't come to the Church few times which made us to push her date back; however, she had legitimate reasons to miss church and once she got them resolved, she came to church every Sunday. She is so smart and learns very quickly. What makes me tear up when I think about her is all the bumps she faced down the path. She was a divorced mother of a boy who just graduated from college. He can't find a job and she works so hard to support him and her. She still pays off his college tuition and when I was there, somebody crashed into her car, broke the side mirror, and just ran off. Josefina and her son lived in a one bedroom apartment that smelled pretty bad because of their cat and there were roaches everywhere. Oh but how strong she was. She loved the Church. She loved the members. She loved the gospel. Before I came home, she gave me a nice set of a pen and a mechanical pencil with a note thanking me.

#8. The Sosas. They stopped coming to the Church months before I got to the area. We started visiting them as a part of Elder Perry's plan, and the more we visited them, the more our love for them deepened. Romeo got baptized when Ashley and Romeo got married. They have three children: Hannah, Kailey, and little Romeo. I don't know why but the Sosas and I just clicked, and we would have so much fun. We would make fun of each other, share our thoughts and concerns, play with children, and so on. I loved how Hannah tried to get my attention whenever I was talking to other people. I loved how whenever Kailey sees me, she would call me, "Elder Kim, Elder Kim, Elder Kim." And little Romeo who just started crawling few weeks before I came home. Many FHE nights with them. Many dinners with them. Many random visits to make sure they are doing OK. Kailey and little Romeo's birthday parties. Romeo's prank call to Elder Gardner. Our trip to the temple. Ashley's sister's baptism. (That story will be followed by this) Them telling me how much they love me and that I was one of their favorite missionaries other than the missionaries who taught Romeo before his baptism. Their sweet, loving words in my journal. I still call them and encourage them to get their patriarchal blessings and go to the temple to be sealed to each other
More story with this family when we started visiting them, Ashley found out that her sister has been missing for about a year. Cassie, Ashley's sister, was with her boy friend the last time she called Ashley. Few weeks later, Ashley got a call from a hospital in Mexico where Cassie was. Cassie was down in Mexico with her boy friend. One night, she was taking a shower when her boy friend just came in and started to beat her and left her on the bathroom floor to die. She barely survived and called for help. The Sosas went to Mexico to pick her up and ever since they've been back to the US, we started to teach Cassie. One night after planning, we heard that other missionaries were having a baptism, we thought that it would be cool to invite the Sosas to that baptism so that Cassie can see how we do our baptism and feel the Spirit there. When we called them, Ashley picked up the phone and I told her what we were planning on doing. She was so happy and told me that she was thinking about how it would be nice for Cassie to see a baptism and learn about the Church. Cassie's foster family was the worst obstacle she had because they were Jehovah's witnesses. She had a lot of pressure from them not to join the Church. Another night, we were visiting a family close by the Sosas and afterward, we started heading home but felt like we needed to visit them. When we got to their house, Ashley was so glad to see us because Cassie had many doubts and questions after visiting her foster family the day before. We were there at the right moment to help her resolve her concerns and doubts. Romeo was able to baptize Cassie which was really cool. :) Cassie finally got baptized but this story didn't have a happy ending. Cassie later met a guy and got pregnant. Now they are somewhere together and she stopped going to church.

It has been a blessing to look at these pictures again and write about them. It brought back memories I hold dearly. My path has interlocked with theirs and they blessed my life so much and I learned so much from them. These people (and more) are what shaped my life and who I am now. I thank them and love them from the bottom of my heart.

I Work at a Zoo Called "Library" Part 3

This was a chat that I got while working.
_________________________________________________________________________
Patron: yo
Me: What up?
Patron: My ward elder's quorum is looking for a room in the library that we can schedule...with a projector in it
Me: There are two with a projector. 3331 and 3332, but you can reserve any room then check out a projector to use at the Learning Commons.
Patron: I know this is kinda "anti-library-ish", but basically it's for a super smash bros tournament. Knowing this, what room would you recommend?
Me: haha I honestly don't know if that would be allowed in the libray but you can actually reserve a massive room in one of the buildings. How many people are going to show up for that?
Patron: Hey man don't tell. It's only "not allowed" if you get caught, right? What other massive rooms are you thinking of?
Me: http://emspweb.byu.edu/VirtualEMS/BrowseForSpace.aspx This is a website to reserve a room in one of the buildings on campus. If you know a huge room with a projector on campus, you can go to that website to reserve that room.
Patron: JSB auditorium??
Me: Yes
Patron: the huge one? that is available?
Me: You should check the website I gave you. Or even HBLL 3714 (which is on the back of the library) is an auditorium with a projector. I have church there so I know.
Patron: cool. Well thanks for the link. This will be epic
Me: Yes, I am sure everyone will enjoy it.

(Few seconds later, he got on the chat again.)
Patron:You are a good librarian.
Me: Thanks. I get that a lot. :)
